How to pay in cheque in old married name

Received a nice cheque this morning or a over payment to Lloyd's back (debt from when married and I have recently finished my step change debit plan) all very nice except the cheque is in my married name! And as been divorced for years all my accounts are in my maiden name.

Is there anyway I can still pay this in or do I need to get reissued in correct name.

Problem is as it's over 10 years since I used my married name I have nothing as ID in that name

Don't have original marriage certificate as married abroad and when I got divorced I had to give this up as part of paperwork, my divorce papers don't state both names either

Banks usually accept small amounts in diff names

As long as your old name is still associated with the account (so was on account previously) they should be ok with it.

I had this problem when we got married and cheques were still a standard way of giving money. Everyone put it in my husband's surname despite me stating I wasn't changing my name 🙄 the bank let me cash it though on production of my marriage certificate as they were small amounts

I would say to try and get them to reissue the cheque in your current name. I work for a bank and we would not accept a cheque in your old married name I'm afraid.

Although you could always check with who you have your account with and ask if they'll accept it.

I changed my name when i got married last year and the bank told me that they would still be able to see an association with both my maiden and married names as they were both linked to the account. So some banks might be ok. Worth asking if nothing else.

New back account has only been opened since my divorce so no association to married name, think I'm going to see if I can get it reissued
