Are these names too similar ?? S-PH ? Also any ideas for middle name for Josephine ? Surname rhymes with Rebel !

Sophia Rebel
Josephine Rebel

I have the alternatives Alexandra and Christina in case Josephine is too similar to Sophia but not sure.

Too many f sounds I think. They don’t ‘go’ in a pair to me either (neither does Sophia and Christine).

ComtesseDeSpair · 04/01/2019 01:02

If I were Josephine, I’d be a bit resentful at being lumbered with it whilst my sister got the pretty, peppy name. But I acknowledge that’s personal preference. Saying them side by side I barely register the two “ph” sounds. (But I prefer Alexandra.)

Middle names for Josephine - anything, really. It’s not long or flowery and thus in need of balancing with something shorter and plainer. Christina or Alexandra would fit, if you like them.

Really? I m thinking all along that Sophia will be resentful that she has such a popular name (so many Sophia’s) while her sister would have a more unique name.

I think they go nicely together, but I much prefer Alexandra. Your Josephine would very probably become Josie too, at least outside the home.

Middle names for Josephine would possibly be Marie, Sarah, Louise, Catherine. Also Alexandra, which you like!

notangelinajolie · 04/01/2019 01:38

I would not pick Josephine. Sophia is such a cool name and Josephine is so not cool. How about Olivia or Georgiana or Katherine (Kate) or Alexandra or Charlotte.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 04/01/2019 06:54

Will she be Josie?

Sophia and Josie are absolutely lovely! I know a 10yo Josie and it’s a lovely name, not dated or old at all. If you absolutely want her to be Josephine (which the Josie I know only is when she’s in trouble Wink) then there is perhaps a lot of F sounds but certainly not enough to make me question using it!

Personally think Christina is far more of a name I would resent for not being pretty enough, I think Josie is pretty cool!

We have a Josephine known as Josie in the family. She’s cool and the name suits her. I like it with Sophia too.

StarSpangledPants · 04/01/2019 07:09

How about Jocelyn?

DonutCone · 04/01/2019 08:15

I think they go perfectly well. And even if they didn’t, when you are an adult how many times have you introduced yourself along side your siblings name? They just don’t need to ‘go’ you will spend the vast, vast majority of your life as completely independent people. I just don’t get this weird MN obsession with ‘sibsets’.

FrostyMoanyWind · 04/01/2019 08:21

Isn't Jocelyn a boys name?

CocoLoco87 · 04/01/2019 08:22

I love Josephine and I like it together with Sophia too. I think the nn Josie is lovely.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 04/01/2019 08:22

DonutCone that’s a very good point! I’ve never understood the thing about sibling names “going”! I can’t remember the last time my name was said alongside DBs!

trulybadlydeeply · 04/01/2019 08:34

It's a lovely name, and I like the nn Josie. I don't think the names "don't go".

Regardless, if you love it, go for it. You will rarely use the names together, anyway. If your friend texts to say she's off down the park with her DD, IME you aren't likely to reply "great, I'll come along with Sophia and Josephine". I would think that you're more likely to say "great, I'll come along with the girls / my two /the kids".

The only time you may regret it is if you never shorten it, and it comes to writing Christmas cards Grin

Nedzilla · 04/01/2019 09:19

I think its a bit too much f sound with the ph in both

Sophia and Juliet
Sophia and Jasmine

fourquenelles · 04/01/2019 11:34

As a Josephine, I hate and have always hated Josie. Jo on the other hand is fine.

eiche · 04/01/2019 16:12

DonutCone trulybadlydeeply for example what are your daughters name ? Sophia and Josephine ! I don’t know sounds weird but DH loves the name..

fourquenelles I like to say the whole name ! Josephine!
