To think people can be so rude on here...

Just want to rant really. I read on here all the time. And I just think that people can be so harsh and mean and rude an very opinionated when's it's not really needed. Why can't people just give advice like the person has asked for ? But instead you get the fucking third degree about everything and a few others on here have said the same.

OP posts:

Because there is a huge diverse community on here and there will be a massive difference in opinion because of race, class, money, sex, education (I could go on...). You also have to have a very thick skin if you ever post on AIBU because without a shadow of a doubt, you are definitely going to be unreasonable to some.

You will also have those who think it is "fun" to be terribly offensive for fun. They do not lead interesting lives so they get their kicks on here instead.

You may have to grow a pair if you wish to stay here. Grin

I was only thinking yesterday how great it was to read a thread in aibu where a poster asked for advice about their baby's eating and not one person piled on her to tell her she was terrible, everyone was kind, reassuring, supportive and gave her good advice. I see loads of threads like this, especially on boards other than aibu. However if someone is being a twat then it usually gets called out pretty quickly, whether the op wants to listen or not.

Shazafied · 03/01/2019 19:45

Totally agree , there are a lot of very bored , very bitter people on Mumsnet.

AuntieStella · 03/01/2019 19:49

I really don't like the"'you're all bitches" threads

I think PP is correct that MN has a huge variety of posters and it's OK for them to post what they think. A predominantly women!/ site should not have to confirm to ideas of being 'nice' all the time.

That said, if you want to see a less robust MN the use the frigging topics

EnidButton · 03/01/2019 19:50

It might be because you're going on AIBU more than anywhere else. Just going off your title.

Chat is nicer and some of the more focused boards. I like Style & Beauty and the house ones (diy, housekeeping etc). Telly Addicts is good too but watch out for spoilers!

(Apologies if I'm wrong and you've been here ages.)

BIWI · 03/01/2019 19:51

Oh look. A first time poster. With an interesting name, given the content of this thread!

And it's you're, not your

Ivegotthree · 03/01/2019 19:53

I think the rudest posters are lonely and needy - if you stalk their posts you see them writing hopeful inflammatory comments time after time.

I feel sorry for them.

Then again I'm home alone MNing in the bath so not exactly Ms Party myself!

EnidButton · 03/01/2019 19:53

^that said aibu has its place and often posters there really sort someone's life out for them with brilliant advice. It's not somewhere to go without thick skin though.

lljkk · 03/01/2019 19:53

sometimes it's easier to be blunt than to try to think of every caveat & sensitivity.

Something I despair of more on MN is people projecting their issues onto someone else's situation, either to amplify or diminish the original poster's problems. Eg

OP: "My boss was rude to me; wwyd?"

-All my bosses were bastards; Bosses are representatives of the capitalist class & should be abolished.

*My boss sexually harrassed me, be grateful you don't have that problem.

Just FFS ppl, put your own issues on your own thread.

dullclothesbrightmind · 03/01/2019 19:56

Yeah, I kinda thought the same when I first started on here. It was a bit of a shock. But on balance, and after time, I think it is better to have a site where people can speak freely (within some limits) rather than people having to self censor to be 'nice'. I'm pretty tired of the social constraints on people being able to speak their mind in wider society at the moment.

Sometimes though, people being nasty to someone who is clearly at rock bottom is frankly cruel. I have had my eyes opened to how little empathy some people have.

Sparklingbrook · 03/01/2019 20:01

People can be rude in RL too. I take it all with a pinch of salt really, especially AIBU.
