Urgent help needed: Birthday present for 20 year old boy

I've already got my brother an experience present (something to do with his love of cats) but I thought it would be nice for him to have a physical present too. Only problem is, his birthday is tomorrow (so any presents would have to be available Amazon prime) and he's a difficult person to buy for. He is into science, cats (doesn't have any of his own though), making things like model aeroplanes, science and earth documentaries and games. He loves fluffy things and he would like a rug but I haven't seen any reasonable priced, decent sized rugs that are a shade of brown. For Christmas I bought him monopoly and a card game and he loved them.
The issue is that he is such a busy person due to his degree (oxbridge) and has told us he will have no time after the Christmas period to play games, make things etc. He says he can get books from his library so books are out too.

Please help!

The different notebooks sound fab. Any more recommendations on which to get and why would be really helpful.

Your brother sounds cool. My son was similar at that age.

What about a cushion - I've just done a quick search on Amazon (searched for "cat cushion") and there are some amazing cushions available on Prime for under £ 20.00

I see nothing wrong in anyone of any age having soft toys - my husband gave me a teddy as part of my Christmas present - but if you don't want to give a "toy" then a cat shaped cushion could be useful/decorative/huggable as well.

I got a Rocket book for a brother last Christmas, after a recommendation here. If your brother is at all tech savvy, it's completely style over substance, unfortunately - it can't do anything that taking a picture of your notes could replicate, apart from being an ever-lasting notebook, of course. It's not editable on the computer or anything like that.

If he likes cats, how about a cat post it holder www.amazon.co.uk/Post-Z-Note-Dispenser-Cat-Design/dp/B00FWQVAQ0/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ref=plSrch&keywords=cat+post+it+note+dispenser&dpPl=1&dpID=31W8VFDSZNL&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1546430897&sr=8-3
Or a cat flask?
www.amazon.co.uk/11-5oz-Insulated-Stainless-Cartoon-Collapsible/dp/B0747TLJVF/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?ref=plSrch&keywords=cat+gifts+for+cat+lovers&dpPl=1&dpID=41XhMksFDVL&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1546430948&sr=8-6

One thing though - I love cats too. I'm quite fed up that people give me cat stuff all the time - I also love dogs, horses, sheep, pigs, flowers... Grin

Or a star lamp for his room?

Amazon has a section on "cat gifts for men" and "gifts for men" if you type these into the search bar.

A really furry throw for bed/couch (got one off tinternet for around £20 a couple of years ago), or multiple packs of berocca and lemsip in case he gets hit by a cold? Multivitamins / probiotics in case he doesn't get time to eat as well as he could?

ButteryParsnips · 02/01/2019 12:35

It's not a physical present and might have to wait, but you could book him and maybe go with him on a visit to a cat cafe - lots of cities have them now, look for one near him. Would be a good de stressor after / around exams.

BlueJag · 02/01/2019 12:42

Money.

Would be a good de stressor after / around exams. This is exactly the experience present that I have already bought him. I am looking for something physical to go alongside it, but thank you Smile

Some of these ideas are so good but I've already done them before e.g. the cushion and the throw. He doesn't drink hot drinks Grin

He is the type who would prefer a present over cash.

Does anyone know where I can get a decent sized, fluffy rug for a reasonable price? He would love one. I've bought one from Aldi in the past which is lovely but they no longer do it Sad

OP, do you mind saying what the cat experience gift is? I've got many friends that are into cats and it might sort out my present buying dilemmas this year 😀

CrazyKittenSmile · 02/01/2019 12:59

Something like this cat craft kit? Even if he won’t have time for models/ games after Christmas they’re the sort of gift that will keep and he can use when he does have more time.

FamilyOfAliens its definitely universally known. Maybe a touch of jealousy . Might be an idea to hide the chip on your shoulder a little better...now bore off

ButteryParsnips · 02/01/2019 13:17

Bakingberry it's a cat cafe visit. I've been a a few and they usually do gift vouchers. Google for ones near you /the people you're buying for.

He is a lucky chap to have such a nice sister Flowers

Yaer Faux Fur Sheepskin Rug 60 x 90 cm Faux Fleece Chair Cover Seat Pad Soft Fluffy Shaggy Area Rugs (Grey) www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B075CLWR45/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_pTllCbNPA90EB?tag=mumsnetforum-21

Amazon have a few small fluffy rugs that double as chair throws, which are available for prime delivery? Not tried them before but they have good reviews so might be a good cheapish gift.

@Bakingberry it's a cat cafe! Smile

@crazykittensmile that is lovely, but seems a bit too straight forward for him. He's used to building things with millions of tiny pieces haha. It's a lovely idea though, so thank you- might keep it for a stocking filler idea in the future Smile

@urbanbeetler you have honestly made my day! Thank you so much Flowers mumsnet needs more kind people like you.

@imcatbug I've seen that rug and similar ones on Amazon, they are really nice. If I can't find a larger one for a reasonable price I will definitely get that one. Thank you!

They have lovely cheap rugs in ikea or the range if you are near either.

Almostthere15 · 02/01/2019 14:13

Can you get to Argos, they have a good range of rugs in the colour match range. They won't last forever, but are ideal for student rooms and the like.

memememe · 02/01/2019 15:18
