An elaborate gold mirror looks lovely against dark blue...

Can we see a further out pic sooner of the floor is visible please? It looks really nice. What shade is the blue wall?

Toughtips · 01/01/2019 18:28

Crap lighting shining on the wall but you can see more floor. It's like a Navy blue

For next time - a tip I've heard recently: get all your stuff and favourite decorative bits BEFORE you paint. There are as billion shades of paint but there might only be three sofas that fit/you can afford.

What kind of look do you want?

I would paint the skirting, door and ceiling in the same shade. It will look bigger. Then soft furnishings - a lighter rug, and either dark greens and blues for cushions or you could go orange and pink

TwoLads · 01/01/2019 18:34

What colour sofa? Navy as well? Contemporary lighting or antique?

TwoLads · 01/01/2019 18:35

And I would get a velvet sofa. Modern velvets are hardy

EnidButton · 01/01/2019 18:37

It looks really nice. Love that dark blue colour.

I was wondering what the name of the shade was so I could have a look on Pinterest. That would be a good place to get ideas if you have it. Do a search either for the shade and brand name or for 'dark blue paint' or navy blue living room. Same on Instagram. You get some good inspiration looking at what others have done.

Ideal home and Houzz are good online sites with lots of pics.

And with Pinterest you can build up a board of everything you like which will give you more of an idea of your style.

Moominfan · 01/01/2019 18:40

I just don't think you can go wrong with a brown leather sofa

Moominfan · 01/01/2019 18:40

Especially with kids/pets

Wowserme · 01/01/2019 18:40

How about a teal colour sofa, with maybe a 8” vertical wide strip and the odd rectangle of teal coloured paint on the wall.

Wowserme · 01/01/2019 18:42

I’d also be enclosed to incorporate chartreuse into the colour scheme, cushions and maybe on the walls as with the teal paint x

Wowserme · 01/01/2019 18:45

The 3 colours tigether... 😊

ChickensForTheHound · 01/01/2019 18:47

What's that colour please?

hmmwhatatodo · 01/01/2019 18:49

I want to say yellow, gold, cream, beige, mustard for seating but I see you have a dog and children so it depends I suppose. I would also go for gold mirror/lighting/side table....

hmmwhatatodo · 01/01/2019 18:51

Look at graham and green for inspiration maybe? Lots of nice lighting there...

MrsIronfoundersson · 01/01/2019 18:53

Beautiful colour! Is it Stiffkey? I wish I were brave enough!

Toughtips · 01/01/2019 18:54

Nights blue Arch is the colour by bnq valspar range.

I'd love a velvet sofa but oh isn't keen

We are thinking a brown tan leather corner sofa.

Any place best for prints? I want to make a feature of them as like different prints at different heights.

Also need a decent rug

Just to be different..

I’d get a leather sofa. Possibly grey if you don’t want trad brown- leather is wipeable so unless you have a very muddy dog and greasy kids...:)

Silver/gunmetal accessories. I prefer more of an urban feel than the softer luxe effect gold would give you. I’d also look at metallic blues to complement the navy.

SealSong · 01/01/2019 19:05

Navy with blush, as seen here looks gorgeous.
