Hello
I have reported a pony to the rspca that has been locked in an empty stable for 3 weeks. I look in on it most days and it never has water, hay or been out in that time. the people who rent the field to the owners give him water and some food.
I keep wanting to give him water and hay too as I feel so sorry for him, but have been advised not to. A none statutory notice was placed near his stable a few days ago, but nothing has changed.
I wake up worrying about him and he's on my mind all the time. What else can I do?

As far as I am aware now that the RSPCA are involved no other agency can help.

Anyone giving hay and water means that the pony has it's basic needs being met and I don't think the RSPCA can go much further. It's awful but the pony needs to be left without so that they can treat it as a serious case.

Have you spoken to the landowners themselves? Do they have an arrangment with the owner that they will provide if the owner does not get there or is it more that the pony has been abandoned?

The British Horse Society do great work on welfare cases so if you feel the situation isn't improving it might be worth you contacting them. They have the knowledge and experience of horses that can be a bit lacking in the RSPCA.

Thank you for taking the time to look out for this pony. There are many reasons a pony could be on box rest (confined to it's stable) and/or on a restricted diet (although there should always be roughage available, even if just straw as a low calorie tummy filler), but if you feel there is something off about this then you have done the right thing.
