How often do you check your phone for messages?

I'm Getting grief coz I only look once in a while (like maybe once every 3 days; I do read emails & FBk on laptop more often). I'm trying to decide whether to be like other people... whatever that is; what DO other people do?

I don't hear a phone in busy environments & not comfortable to have it in my hands or pockets at all times, so I would need an active strategy of deliberate checking how to be slave to it. Maybe one of those runner arm bands so I can use my hands for other things?

Other people's phones seem to buzz & chirp constantly with messages. I'm not exaggerating; the vibrations are many / minute. Seems horrible to me; how do you manage that? DH denies this is true for him, but he's deluded because his phone barely stopped vibrating on a 1 hr car journey when phone was in my hands.

Well I use my phone for the internet, so I’m on it almost constantly.

If I’m at work (so at my desk with a computer) then I check my phone less. It’s always on silent, but I hear it buzz if I get a message.

Mine only vibrates if I get a text/call though. DH has most of his notifications set to push through on vibrate so his never stops between his emails and bloody twitter.

My point is, you can tweak your settings so that it only alerts you to stuff you care about, which is less likely to get on your nerves.

Once a day, maybe and don't look or recharge it at weekends! I am not heavily invested in my phone tho' I appreciate it's uses!

I check mine lots but that's because I use it for everything so when I pick it up to look for a recipe or check my calendar etc I see if there are message notifications.

My fat fingers means it takes like 10 minutes to type a message (constantly hit the wrong keyboard buttons) so I will type a msg on anything else in preference. Plus I'm bad at scrolling so end up hitting links when I just want to scroll. It's same on DH's iphone so I don't think it's an Android-only problem.

I really don't like phone interfaces.

Part of me feels like I should wait until I'm 75 before getting truly on phone, so then I will die before the whole interface changes again and so will only have to learn one set of actions how to set every notification etc.

I don't actively check it, but I wear a Garmin smartwatch all the time and notifications come through to that. I usually glance at them and then pick my phone up if there is something I need to respond to.

I have my phone programmed into my fitbit so I get alerts for texts (and can read first line) and know when someone ringing.

Halfahunnerstillastunner · 01/01/2019 13:15

It's round me constantly daytime as I do so much of my work on it (self employed) so probably see and respond pretty much immediately. Never more than a few hours (for friends and family I mean, work is immediate).
Most of my friends etc usually respond to texts within an hour or two at most. The only time it takes any of them more than 24 hours to reply is on holiday/ill/dealing with a crisis.

I probably check mine every 2 hours or so, so not very often compared to most people.

Once or twice a day. I trust people will ring if it's anything urgent.
