Do you celebrate NYE with your kids? Do you let them stay up and what age?

What do you do with them

Yes. Mine wanted to do nice dinner with tablecloth, drawing, silly dancing, eating lots of posh crackers and watching Jools Holland. It was nice.

margaritasbythesea · 01/01/2019 01:29

And Cluedo.

Onlymeyousee · 01/01/2019 01:30

What age are they margarita?

Yes and yes but only late enough to o catch the early fireworks.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 01/01/2019 01:31

Our DC have stayed up with us for past couple of NYE, they are now 10 and 12 yrs. We don't do anything particularly special, but play board games, watch films. This year we watched Madness on BBC.

Loads of fireworks in our neighborhood, so when midnight came we opened the front door and watched, and wished happy new year to the neighbours

LeonoraFlorence · 01/01/2019 01:32

Yes. We and friends rotate each year to host parties and we’ve always let DC stay up. Last DD is just sleeping now. They’ll have a long lie tomorrow before going out for late lunch with family.

Newsername · 01/01/2019 01:34

Mine are 11, 7 and 5. They were all up dancing to the fireworks at 12am 😳😆. First time they’ve stayed up too. I ordered pizza, let them play roblox all evening. Then they made a tent in the girls bedroom and have gone to sleep in it. We don’t really make a big deal out of NY but it was nice not having to force them to sleep!

Armchairanarchist · 01/01/2019 01:36

Yes and yes. We always go out for a meal then take a bottle of champagne to the beach to see the fireworks. We've done this for over twenty years.

Blondie1993 · 01/01/2019 01:40

DS (7) stayed up for the first time this year. Just us and DDog and DCat x2 Grin.

We played board games, ate custard slices, played Spyro the dragon, watched Jurassic Park then watched the fireworks from the window with the BBC on. He had his first miniature glass of Irn Bru to toast the New Year Wine. He’s all tucked up in bed now, as am I. He is good company, we had a very nice, cosy night!

BoldComicSans · 01/01/2019 01:45

My children are 8 and 10. We went out for a late carvery tea. Games played and then we went out in the car somewhere with a fantastic view and watched all the fireworks.

Both are now snoozing away in bed.

beansontoastfortea · 01/01/2019 01:46

I didn't... I didn't celebrate and my partner is at work... sent the kids 11, 9 & 5 to bed at usual time

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 01/01/2019 01:51

I always let mine stay up, if he wanted to. Most years he would, he'd have a bubbly to see the year in, then slope off to bed around 1am.

He's 18 this year and wanted to go to my parents' party instead of out on the town. He's as pissed as a fart and after a loud and tuneless rendition of songs from Les Mis in the street, he's now tucked up in bed with a litre of water...

Blankscreen · 01/01/2019 01:54

Mine are 5 and 8 and they stayed up. We went out for dinner with friends and everyone came back here.

They played on Minecraft for most of the evening and then lut the TV on and watched the fireworks big Ben chimes etc.

Linnet · 01/01/2019 02:00

Yes, they are 21 and 14. We had dinner then played a game then went out into outside and watched our neighbours set off their fireworks then the neighbours came and watched our fireworks. They have now just gone to bed in the last 5 minutes.

2019Reasons · 01/01/2019 02:03

Mine are 13 & 10 and we’ve had amazing New Years with them this and last year. They are in bed sleeping by 1am of their own accord, though Grin.

Two years previous (when they were 11 & 8) we braved a NYE party and they were both asleep on the sofa by 11pm and didn’t realky enjoy it.

Different strokes & play it by ear, I guess

Dontbestupidagain · 01/01/2019 02:05

My 6 year old DD went to bed at 11 but her siblings (13, 11,8) are still up. We had a party with friends and have an extra 5 kids staying. They are all "sleeping" in the sitting room still awake 🙄

AornisHades · 01/01/2019 02:07

We've had friends in. The dc (12 & 7)stayed up.

purplepigs · 01/01/2019 02:10

Yep they stay up and always watch the fireworks !!!!!

BillyAndTheSillies · 01/01/2019 02:32

We only had my parents over. Put DS(2) to bed at normal time and then sent a text to my parents to say he was in bed and they could come over. He has form for not going to bed if they're in the house.
Haven't heard a peep from him despite next door neighbours letting off fireworks from their bedroom window which is right next to his.

Juanbablo · 01/01/2019 06:52

I took them out to a local pub with some friends this year. Dh is away. It was fun. We left at 9 though, in bed and asleep by 10 because I know they won't sleep in and will be grumpy so no point trying to see midnight with them.

Juanbablo · 01/01/2019 06:52

They are 11, 8 and 4.

PenguinPandas · 01/01/2019 07:02

Mine stayed up, just had nice meal and Champony for kids (fizzy apple juice). Off to Longleat today for safari and fireworks. 🎉 Back to school on 3rd. 😂

PenguinPandas · 01/01/2019 07:03

Sorry meant 😭 not 😂

MyOtherProfile · 01/01/2019 07:10

We have always celebrated with the dc and with other families with similar aged dc. For years we have had dinner at someone's house - feed the kids first then let them go play while we havee a grown up meal. We would always mark the new year but around 9 or 10pm then go home. It's only the last two years we have actually all stayed til midnight and celebrated at the correct time.

Eminybob · 01/01/2019 07:13

Ds tried to stay up but fell asleep at about 9 watching a film. He’s 4 so we imagined that would happen.
I went to go and put the baby in his cot at about 10.30 and ended up falling asleep and missing everything myself.
Poor dh saw it in alone Sad
