On Graham Norton.

What is up with her? Song and dancing was weird and now she is being really awkward.

I think she is funny and she looks amazing.

Pooh. Catherine Tate.

WakeUpFromYourDreamAndScream · 31/12/2018 23:28

I agree, talking to Olivia Colman about British Airways? WTF was that all about? Burping the alphabet? I think she's pissed or high

GollyGoshGreat · 31/12/2018 23:29

A bit pissed and star struck?
She looks good. Much prefer this cocktail lounge singer look than the previous ones she’s had. Great voice on Rita!

IAmAlwaysLikeThis · 31/12/2018 23:30

She always comes across really weirdly to me.

But talking to Olivia Coleman about being on the BA safety thing, really. What a mess.

I think she's a great singer but always seems a bit awkward in interviews and chat pieces, doesn't seem to like being on the spot, she seems nice enough though.

notacooldad · 31/12/2018 23:34

I thought she was ok.
Wasn't she just joking about the comic sketch that Olivia was an air hostess. Maybe she was a bit giddy but I've seen worse on. GN

Nothisispatrick · 31/12/2018 23:41

I’m not a fan. The performance was really dull and each time I’ve seen her interviewed she comes across thick as shit

Nothisispatrick · 31/12/2018 23:42

We’ve changed to jools Holland now Nan came on Hmm

IAmAlwaysLikeThis · 31/12/2018 23:42

nota OC is on BA safety announcement videos atm and RO was saying that’s where she knew her from.

Rita has always felt like she's being forced onto us. She's everywhere! Singing, judging talent shows, acting in films, presenting award shows, modeling, it is relentless!

I think I'd like her if she wasn't everywhere.

Also, I quite like pop music, but I couldn't name you one of her songs.

ChristineBaskets · 31/12/2018 23:47

She's always odd and uncomfortable to watch. I remember seeing her on Buzzcocks ages ago and concluding she was quite thick. Although I don't know how much is because English isn't her first language and something is lost in translation maybe. Her accent sounds unnatural too, like she is putting it on.

She looks great and has an ok voice though.

IAmAlwaysLikeThis · 31/12/2018 23:48

I don’t get what she’s meant to be either.

She doesn’t really do any style in particular. And couldn’t name a single song by her.

Erin2019 · 31/12/2018 23:49

It all seemed very awkward!

IAmAlwaysLikeThis · 31/12/2018 23:49

What? She’s lived in the UK since she was a baby! No way you wouldn’t class her as a native speaker!

OP posts:
Charley50 · 31/12/2018 23:54

I cringed for her, I really did.

AutoFilled · 01/01/2019 00:00

It’s really racist to say Rita Ora isn’t a native speaker of English. She is here since a year old, and received her entire education in the U.K. Her parents may speak another language at home (not sure what language Albanians speak). But without an education in Kosovo/Albania, her level of the language won’t be that great. I know because I have second generation children, and myself didn’t finish school with my native language. I bet Rita Ora most fluent language is English.

ChristineBaskets · 01/01/2019 00:08

Jesus. I thought I was being charitable by making allowances for her not seeming to understand the use of idioms etc. I don't have in detail knowledge of her life history but had an idea she'd come to England when young and her parents were speakers of another language. I thought she was older than that when she moved here though, I admit.

IAmAlwaysLikeThis · 01/01/2019 00:14

Bit of a racist assumption though.

My daughter is mixed and I get ‘wow her English is great’ all the time and it is grating.

Always best to check to avoid pissing ppl off.

I once read an interview in which she said she had her first memory when she was 8 years old...

IAmAlwaysLikeThis · 01/01/2019 00:16

Her first memory??? What does that mean?

OP posts:
Popandcrackle · 01/01/2019 00:16

I thought her performance with the backing singers was so strange. It felt weirdly uncomfortable to watch!

Patroclus · 01/01/2019 00:23

I mean that the first thing she remembers about anything is when she was 8, nothing before that.

IAmAlwaysLikeThis · 01/01/2019 00:32

pat My husband is the same, doesn’t remember anything before 10.

I don’t think it is an indication of thickness though.

OP posts:
IAmAlwaysLikeThis · 01/01/2019 00:33

pop yes the performance was weird.

MrsSarahSiddons · 01/01/2019 00:39

How can someone not remember anything from before the age of ten?
I think I've entered another dimension on MN tonight.
