Anyone have a couple of close friends rather than a big group?

I have just one or two people I’d class as close friends (who don’t know each other) and a few other acquaintances or friends I’m not close to but we catch up every six months ish. A few more people I work with who i’d say are friends but we don’t socialise much outside of work or communicate much either.
I know of others who have a solid ‘gang’ of friends they’ve stuck with since high school or uni and go out with for all their birthdays, at Christmas, and do smaller social things too. I’m really envious of these people having a mini family they can go out with and rely on.

Am I the only one? One of my New Years resolutions is to try and make more friends.

I too am amazed at these people who have a large group of 'close friends' that they've known since birth and with whom they seem to spend every holiday, every birthday, every celebration.

I only have 3 or 4 'friends' that I see and speak to on a fairly regular basis. I've tried to meet people through joining classes, volunteering, sites such as Meetup and exploring various new hobbies, but I've not had much luck over the years.

That's me - just a few close friends as in those I would trust with my deepest darkest secrets. Only one of them lives nearby - the rest live all over the world. I think that if you are more of an introvert you tend to have a few close individual friends because the group dynamic just drains you.

I haven’t had a group of friends since I was at school. I have three or four close friends who don’t know each other. I see two of them often, two of them less so as they live further away but when we do catch up it’s like no time has passed.
