Hi!
I found out on boxing day that I'm too become a grandmother in August, which is a few wks before I'm 40!
My daughter will be nearly 22 when the baby is born and although a shock, we're all getting our heads round it now and its very exciting but she's only 7 and a bit weeks gone so can't tell too many people.
But 39 to be a grandma!! I'm gonna have to come up with a cool name... what do your grandkids call you?!

Me! I'm 39 too. A big shock for me as my DD is only 17, so very unexpected. Obviously I would rather she was much much older, but here we are.

I'm Grandma to a beautiful little girl and we all love her to bits.

Congratulations! Thanks

Subeccoo · 31/12/2018 14:21

Ah so you're like me and my daughter in reverse, I was 17 when I had her so had always feared this day!! I want to tell everyone, having such difficulty keeping it in. Can't guarantee secrecy with my bestie over new years drinks tonight!!
How old is your granddaughter?

MissMogwai · 31/12/2018 15:11

Aw it will be difficult after a couple of drinks! The time will fly by, and baby will be here before you know it!

My granddaughter is 5 months old now. She's gorgeous. It won't be easy for my DD but she's brilliant mum which is the main thing.

A girl I went to school with became a grandmother at 32. She was 16 having her daughter. Her daughter was the same having her baby.

PortiaCastis · 31/12/2018 15:19

No, but dd is 20 and I'm 38 so its entirely possible

DustyMaiden · 31/12/2018 15:25

Had my first DD at 24 first GDD at 40. Now at 56 could be a GGM , think DGD is too sensible for that.

Pibplob · 31/12/2018 15:29

Wow. I’m 39 too but mine are only 7 and 11 so wont be happening for a while for me. Look at the positives - a young grandparent will be great!

madmum5811 · 31/12/2018 15:40

Glamma, is a lovely name for a young grandmother I think.

x2boys · 31/12/2018 15:51

I was 33 when my first child was born so it's highly unlikely 'll be a young grandma some one I went to school with was just 40 and a grandma and she's very glamarous congratulations!

I'm too become a grandmother in August, which is a few wks before I'm 40!

Funny how different lives can be. I'm 7 weeks pregnant (first baby hopefully) and will turn 40 in July.

Lavenderdays · 31/12/2018 18:11

Congratulations

Funny how different lives can be.

I'm 44 and have just had my third and final baby (dc1 is 12).

I am one of the oldest mums on the block at the school gates to have an infant aged child and a baby but most of the time it doesn't occur to me. Often, I get on better with the grandparents there (most are early to mid 60's).

Aneira11 · 31/12/2018 18:30

Congrats! I’m currently planning DC3 (so I’ll be 42). I still feel really young in mind and body, but realise that we will be ancient grandparents by comparison lol. Lovely that you’ll have so much time and energy with your DGC

Congratulations!! My best friend is 39 with a 9 month old and we've just realised that'll be less than 18mths between her daughter and my grandchild which is just gorgeous, awesome.

Yes very funny how different lives turn out. I'm broody for the first time in years which is not going to be taken any further but at least there will be a little one around that I can do so much with. Dd and I really are the best of friends so I'm super excited.

We've just told my parents. They will be great grandparents of 68 and 70 when he or she is born. I still have a grandmother alive which means there is potential for 5 generations to get together. So many positives. I'm a bit giddy really, im sure reality will kick in soon!!!

A school friend of mine became a grandma at 34!

Subeccoo · 31/12/2018 18:32

I've referred to two different best friends if I've confused anyone. Bestie tonight doesn't have a clue.. other one lives miles away and I can barely take a pee without being in sync with her so had to spill!!!

IHaveBrilloHair · 31/12/2018 18:33

I'm not, but one of my closest friends is 43 and Gran to a three yr old who she absolutely dotes on.
Dd is sexually active at 17, I'm 41 so although Dd isn't planning children yet, you never know, and she's had a pg scare.

Subeccoo · 31/12/2018 18:34

32, 34 it's madness.... dd has a ft job, bf of 3 years who has ft job, a home... things could be a lot worse.

Blimey!

Although I believe there is some sort of correlation between being a very young mother yourself, and your daughter also being a very young mum.

Miljah · 31/12/2018 19:21

Oh, sorry, should also have added congratulations! You'll certainly be a Glamma! Grin

Ozgirl75 · 31/12/2018 19:25

My Aunt and Uncle got married over 60 years ago when she was 19 and pregnant with her first child (my cousin). That cousin then had children at 20 and that child had his first child mid 20s. All long term married - my Uncle is now 79 and in great health and loves having his big family and being a great grandad.

My parents on the other hand had me at 30 and I then had my first one at 32 so the chances of me being a great grandparent are very very slim!

BarbaraofSevillle · 31/12/2018 20:09

DM, MIL, DSis, SIL and a few other relatives or inlaws all grandmothers by 40.

I'm 45, a great aunt and child free. If I had a child, which is not going to happen, it would really fuck up the generational space time continum in our families Grin.

explodingkitten · 31/12/2018 20:18

I'm a bit giddy really, im sure reality will kick in soon!!!

Naaah, stay giddy. It is fantastic news after all. Enjoy it and congratulations!

ForalltheSaints · 31/12/2018 20:20

Emmanuel Macron is a step-grandfather, so may be able to offer advice.

Bamchic · 31/12/2018 20:24

My Grandma was forty three when I was born and sixty four when I fell pregnant (had to have late term tmfr sadly) but similar age to you and she is be best grandma ever, so so cool.

mabelstanley · 31/12/2018 22:06

We have a history of teen/young mums in our family so my nan was only 35 when she became my nan, and my mum was the same when she became a nan to my eldest.

IMO grandma sounds older than nan Smile
