What is this? Anyone else have it?

For the past week or so I've felt really unsettled. I can't eat, sleep, concentrate. My stomach is churning and I feel, I don't know, nervous? Waves of something keep coming over me, where I have an actual physical sensation in my stomach (I'm not pregnant - far too old!)

I'm not a nervous or anxious person normally, and although I realise it can be a strange time of year, I've never felt this way in previous years. I'm not in pain or anything. I just don't understand this.

Anyone else had this? I'm so on edge.

Too much caffeine/caffeine withdrawal?

I developed a sensitivity to caffeine which presented symptoms including all those you describe. Have you been drinking more or less coffee/tea/cola over Christmas than you usually would?

Or could you be perimenopausal?

ShadyGray · 31/12/2018 12:47

Thanks for the reply Mutts. No I haven't changed anything diet wise. Don't drink cola and probably only have three teas max a day. I've tried keeping it at bay by being busy but as soon as I stop its back with a vengeance!

I feel "out of sorts" as well....Can't put my finger on why either. Sorry, no words of advice, but you're not alone

Actually OP, I've had a really unsettled week.

Feeling quite like you describe but with zero history of anxiety. I've had an incredibly emotional and stressful year but the physical manifestation at the moment is just odd. I've had a knot in my chest for over a week now.... was so worried I've been checking my own BP everyday in case I'm going to have a heart attack!!!

I have a few massive things coming up early next year so I'm wondering if it's this causing anxiety?

I've also been back on the vino after a period of virtual abstinence so that could be a factor?

I think I've been peri menopausal for some time now.

Time for a detox maybe? We tend to eat richer food and have more stimulants like chocolate over the festive season. Your body might be telling you to eat raw and drink lots of water for a couple of days.

Urbanbeetler · 31/12/2018 12:50

I’m full on menopausal and definitely get Wobblies every now and then when my insides hum with displeasure.

ShadyGray · 31/12/2018 12:53

Sorry, crossposted. whywontthey and crunchy solidarity in numbers :)

I don't have anything particularly stressful coming up. I'm beginning to wonder if something major is going to happen and I've suddenly, in my 50's, developed a talent for predicting upcoming event!

Urban I love that phrase! Going to adopt it henceforth for every time my stomach rumbles. :)

I'm peri menopausal and it's definitely a hormonal thing for me.

PuppyMonkey · 31/12/2018 14:16

I’m early 50s and have just gone through menopause. This sounds like what I get just before a hot flush... an overwhelming feeling of impending doom, hot flush and then ok again. Confused

MuttsNutts · 31/12/2018 16:32

My money is on hormonal changes due to peri/menopause then if you’re at that age.

It’s a bitch.
