D&V for 6 hours yesterday, ok to go to family tonight?

I had quite horrific D&V from 0600-1500 yesterday, I feel so much better today even though I have not eaten anything yet.
We are supposed to be going to MIL for NYE celebrations tonight.
I’m unsure if I would be selfish to still go as I’ve not had a full 48 hours since last episode?

No! Absolutely not! Would be incredibly selfish to go as you’d almost certainly make others sick. Its 48hrs for a reason.
Glad you feel better though

ForgivenessIsDivine · 31/12/2018 11:58

We are advised 24 hours.. (not UK) but realistically... you will be putting your family at risk.

ErictheGuineaPig · 31/12/2018 11:59

You've barely done 24 hours so I wouldn't. It sucks but it would be a shitty way for everyone to start the new year if they caught it from you.

Evidencebased · 31/12/2018 12:00

No. No. No.
Don't do it - and other family members may be just about to come down with it.

Nsbgsyebebdnd · 31/12/2018 12:00

Don’t go- completely unfair

donkeylegs · 31/12/2018 12:00

no you can't go! let them know why you can't come asap

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 31/12/2018 12:01

Not unless you really don't like your family
You may still be carrying the bug don't go!

OhLemons · 31/12/2018 12:01

Unfair on others if you go.

arewethereyetmum78 · 31/12/2018 12:01

Yes very selfish. The 48 hour guidance is there for a reason. Plus you haven't eaten yet, why not? Starving yourself so you've nothing left to be sick is not the same as feeling better.

Spudlet · 31/12/2018 12:02

Stay at home. Nobody wants a puking bug to start a new year with.

Honestly, I would be seriously pissed off with you if you were at a family party with me. Bad enough that I've caught a rotten cold from my DM over Christmas, if I'd caught D&V I'd be seriously annoyed, especially since I have a small child who'd undoubtedly end up with it as well!

coco7676 · 31/12/2018 12:03

I thought as much, I’m not really fussed whether I go or not and think DH is quietly relieved!!
Thanks everyone, I’ll just get cosy cosy for NYE instead Smile

As a nurse/someone with basic common sense: absolutely not! 48 hours from the last episode of either D or V. Once you start eating the D is likely to restart as you've got something in your system. It only halts as nothing in there. So get eating and drinking to get the bug out but it's still 48 hours after last episode so that the bug has properly left your system.

You would be incredibly selfish to go anywhere as you will spread it like wildfire.

Are people really this stupid?

PerverseConverse · 31/12/2018 12:05

X post.

bellinisurge · 31/12/2018 12:08

I have MS. I quietly live in fear of getting that kind of bug. I can't predict whether randoms might give it to me but if you turned up at my house having only finished a bout of it less than a day ago, I would tell you to go home. If you didn't tell me and I got it from you in those circumstances, I doubt I'd ever let in my house again.

AuchAyeTheNo · 31/12/2018 12:13

Nope and i would be furious if you had turned up at mine. Especially when you havent tried to eat anything.

coco7676 · 31/12/2018 12:18

Thanks everyone, I’m honestly not that stupid and I will not go!

Hope you feel better soon (I would hide this now as it is inevitable that there will now be a gazillion responses shouting at you from people who haven't seen your v sensible decision) Grin

Happy New Year to you, with minimal puking!

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 31/12/2018 12:22

Cosy couch New Year's is the best sort : )

FlibbertyGiblets · 31/12/2018 12:26

Cosy jammies and a glass of flat pop, add in ready salted crisps and Jools Holland. Bliss!

FlibbertyGiblets · 31/12/2018 12:27

Sorry you were ill. Forgot that bit. Blush
