Tender breasts

Has anyone had any experience of tender breasts over a prolonged period of time? It started around six months or more ago and at first it was on the run up to my period, then they went back to normal after my period. For the last few months, they've been constantly tender (both exactly the same, not one worse than the other) e.g. hurting if I knock into something or if DP or DD hug me too tight, also DP has to be careful during sex as they hurt if squeezed etc. They are also both swollen. I had a similar thing when pregnant with DD, but I'm definitely not pregnant and have had at least six periods while this has been going on.

I've just turned 40, so was wondering if it's to do with perimenopause or something like that? My periods are still like clockwork every four weeks, but they have got much heavier at the beginning over the last year or so.

@expatinspain... hi. I get the same thing and it's worse around ovulation. I've been tested to see whether I'm peri-menopausal but apparently not although I'm 46. I did read on a ttc thread that it can be due to surges in progesterone.

booseysmum Do you have it most of the time? Have you found anything relieves it?

I wouldn't say it was most of the time tbh. It's just worse around mid cycle and then just before AF. I don't think there's anything you can do to relieve it. I remember when I was on the pill I had it most of the time and coming off it helped as it mostly went away. I haven't been on the pill or anything for years. It does sound like pregnancy hormones as when I had DS they were really really swollen and painful. Maybe get the doctor to do some tests. Good luck and sorry I can't be much help xx
