I want to go abroad for xmas next year

Had yet another stress-filled xmas this year that we haven't truly enjoyed. So DH and I have discussed going away next xmas/new year. Discussed it with some other close relatives who are also keen on the idea. Has anyone else done this?

If so, recommendations for good destinations in December? (that's not too longhaul, happy to consider UK and abroad, hot or cold).

And any pro's and cons we should consider?

The black forest in germany went there a few years ago in december and it was magical, so pretty with lots of tiny little villages

I've never done it but would love to. I'd be going to get away from relatives though....Not go with them Grin

I'm near Barcelona. It was 18°c today and sunny. In fact it has been glorious for about a month. DH and DS went for a Christmas Day swim in the sea!

Christmassy enough to enjoy but not Christmas overload. Plus there is the Caga Tio - a smiley log which craps out your presents on Christmas Eve Grin

I was going to suggest Barcelona too. I was there unexpectedly last Christmas, not a city I would have chosen for Christmas, but loved it. Christmassy, but so relaxed and low key.

Barcelona (and everywhere in Spain) has a Kings parade on the evening of 5th January where the 3 kings chuck sweets into the crowds for children. The Barcelona one is beautiful.

Christmas lasts longer out here, to the 6th so everything feels less manic. Sales aren't on yet!
