No plans for NYE other than TV and takeaway with DH - kids aged 5 and 3. My friend has just asked if she and her kids of similar ages can come round. I’m happy for her to come, but am anxious about how to be entertaining from six ish until midnight. I can do drinks and food and chat - but for so long?! Any thoughts, please, anyone?

We have done this a few times and a Big Quiz of the Year usually goes down well to break it up a bit.

You need a decent film ans/or nye type programme

We're doing similar with 2 other families. Loosely planning charades, Yes and No game, Bop It Party, also have quiet room for DVDs/gaming for kids if/when required, table footy and Spotify and a disco ball. Enjoy!

We do this kind of thing all the time - you just eat, drink and chat and the next thing you know it’s 2am!

Ooh good idea about the quiz - do you mean the actual tv programme Big Far Quiz of the Year? It’s been on already, but I can find it on catch-up. Thank you for your ideas. I’d love to do games, but the only games we have are very child-oriented - I don’t think I can drag our Guess Who for long!

@chickenflicking there is sometimes some online you can just print out (BBC, newspaper websites etc) but some of the questions can be quite obscure.

We usually take an hour on the 30th to look through the years biggest news/music/politics etc. Highlights that are relevant for our audience and make our own. It does obviously require a little bit of up front prep but we found our guests are much more engaged and interested in the Quiz when its Qs they relate to or might actually know!

I think 6 is early if they are staying until midnight, can you push back to 1930

How's it go?Smile

Oh, it went well, thank you for asking! We did activities (kids’ homework!), played games and eventually settled down to watch comedy things on TV. Was a lovely evening - thank you for your help!
