Severe leg pain. Help!

I have had mild sciatic type pain for a week or so. Then 2 days ago, it was uncomfortable for me to sit and from yesterday it is agony. The pain goes from my left buttock down to my toes. Painkillers will not touch it and I can't even walk. Do I need to go to A and E?

Call 111 first. Does sound like sciatica which can be very severe. They'll tell you if you need to go to A&E or an out of hours centre. Can anyone drive you?

You might be better off having a sports massage or seeing an osteopath. Sciatica is caused by nerves being compressed in the spine area. The fact that you now have pain going down to your foot means that it is the nerve that goes down to your foot that is being compressed, so if your back is sorted out in the area where that particular nerve comes from, you will be ok.

Do you have back pain? and/or any numbness around your saddle area OP?

It’s important to check out the spinal red flag symptoms...if you are suffering with any of those then you must go to a and e now.

OP, not to worry you, but go to A&E and get it checked.

Reason I'm saying this is Cauda Equina is a compression of the spinal cord, I had excruciating back and leg pain with numbness, which has now resulted in my bladder and bowel not working.

Not to say you have what I had, but please go and get it checked in A&E today!
