What makes people look rich?

I was out for a walk yesterday with my family. Another family walk along the path towards us. They were dressed in their scruffs, as were we. Other than a quick ‘hello’ as we passed, we didn’t hear them talking, so no accent to gauge. They just looked rich!! Once they’d passed, my cousin turned to me and quietly said ‘loaded!’, obviously out of ear shot. We were both trying the the new work out what brought us to the same conclusion. It wasn’t clothes, accent, we don’t know them, what car they drive, what house they own, jobs they do etc.. so zero knowledge about them, but my cousin and I both had the same first impression.
We could be wrong of course Grin and this is a lighthearted thread.
But, what makes someone look rich?

And as for why rich looking sister looks rich, she's fairly slim, fairly attractive, well groomed, and nicely dressed in fairly classic, smart casual clothes.
My other sister is a bit overweight, I'm a lot overweight, and both of us struggle with our hair and makeup.
It's very hard to define.

Tans! And heavy clothes. Expensive clothes tend to just be heavier, and sit differently. We sat behind Jamie Oliver and his family once, that's what I noticed! And bouncy hair!

There are lots of generalisations but for me, I think it's being slim, looking tan, keeping fit, and having great hair.

Getting your colour or highlights/ lowlights done professionally means your stylist gets the tone correct for your skin colour, regardless of the colour you chose. So no DIY colour. Also, hair looking clean and like it's just been blow dried ie smooth and shiny even with curls.
Oh and no scraping back into a ponytail.

Expensive shoes. Not flashy designer stuff but really expensive practical stuff like le chameau (prob wrong spelling) wellies or posh gore tex shoes or really expensive coats. None looks flashy but it’s sooooo expensive!

I spotted a couple on holiday who were obviously very rich. She was tall, skinny and bosomy with plasticky looking lips and skin, wearing the tiniest dress I have ever seen. He was a foot shorter and looked like Mick Jagger's dad with tight leather trousers and a deep tan. I was was itching to have a closer look. I have never seen so much bling and plastic surgery close up in real life.

I'd rather look poor, thanks Grin

I think it's having the money for a fantastic mattress. If, every time you lie down, all your aches and pains disappear as you drift away so you wake up feeling fresh and relaxed (and obviously don't spend the hours between 2 and 5.45am wondering how you will pay the bills at the end of the month) - well, you're going to hold yourself differently.

I agree hair and skin are important. I walked through the city centre and some people looked exhausted and had sallow complexions, thinning home dyed hair. Our local posh area people have a healthy glow and shiny, professionally dyed hair.

Also nice clothes, discreet handbags and minimal make up.

I swear that thigh-gap is a key marker of the female of the species. Even when I’m very slim, I don’t have thigh gap at the very top. Slim UMC and UC women look great in jeans and slim cut trousers into their 60s and beyond.
I also agree with good, but not over-styled hair and nice skin. Any Botox or fillers are so subtle they are undetectable. They wear their lines well. No screaming branding but quality fabrics and cut. The blokes do less well, I’m not keen on the bright trouser brigade. They often seem to age badly compared to their wives, florid complexions abounding. They are usually taller than average.
I am small and wide of arse but narrow of shoulder, things just don’t hang well on me. I’m very envious of the thigh-gap.

I have a thigh gap and I'm from fully working class stock.

I didn't think how your skeleton is formed is linked to your class or income!

In the million and one photos in the Mail of the Middletons and Matthews clans on holiday, the women look very glossy and well groomed, even when dripping wet - thin, perfect tans, not a body hair in sight, etc. I was looking at their feet and there was no sign of hard skin so obviously they have pedicures.
I, on the other hand, am very overweight, very pale, with rough feet and several months of underarm hair growth!
Why haven't I bagged a millionaire? Hmm, let me think...
