Why does my upstairs bathroom smell of weed?

So, ever since our new neighbours moved in a couple of months ago - well not immediately but within the past few weeks, there is a very strong smell of weed in our upstairs bathroom.

Sometimes, it is so strong we can smell it on the middle floor. We live in a three storey town house. We have started to keep the door shut which helps with the aroma in the house but the bathroom is just potent.

Is there any other explanation for this smell? I have cleaned the bathroom thoroughly including the floor multiple times incase it was something else, the plug holes don't smell. Could the smell even come through the wall?! It is baffling me.

Anyone experienced similar or have any ideas?

Are you detached? If not I’d check your loft/attic.

Sounds like they're growing it. It absolutely stinks if there's a full room of the stuff. Do you know the layout of their house? Presumably they have a bedroom next to your bathroom?

No we have neighbours either side. DH has been up the loft a few times over Christmas and not smelled it and specifically to smell for the smell and nothing. It seems to come on a few times each day. It's not always constant.

Smells from our next door neighbour come into our house a lot. We can’t work out why. Luckily it’s mostly dinner smells and not weed....

It is a bedroom next to our bathroom yes. They have an 8 year old ish lad and a 15 year old ish lad. Surely they wouldn't be growing it.🙈

This also leads me on to the fact that we own our house where as theirs is rented - the landlord is a close friend of my DH who has considered mentioning it but obviously we don't want to be accusing them of something that they might not even be doing. Hmm

We once had a downstairs neighbour who smoked weed. The smell seeped up through the floorboards into one of our cupboards and everything in it stank of weed for months afterwards Sad

The smell can and does find its way through any little gaps or porous materials, so it quite possibly could be coming through your bathroom walls or a vent.

They are probably smoking. When my neighbour smokes- regular cigarettes- I can sometimes smell it in my house.

thisisjustdaft · 30/12/2018 09:51

My guess is the 15 year old smoking out of an open window and it is drifting into your house. Check your flower beds - there may be tell-tale fag ends.
My NDN's dc did this for a while and was throwing butts into our garden.

We can smell our neighbours normal cigarettes in our upstairs bathroom. Our bathroom borders her bedroom where she smokes. I think the smoke goes through to the floorboards/plumbing under the bath and makes the room smell. Thankfully we don't have the same problem in any other room. We keep that bathroom door shut.

I could have written this myself last spring. New neighbours. Stench of weed (more chemical smell, must have been skunk). Wasn't able to open any back windows all summer.. PITA! I spoke to them about it as I was so fed up by August. And they sort of apologised/ laughed it off. Now that it's colder they've started doing it inside and the smell is coming in through the walls or floor. I smell it in my living room, landing and DD(4) bedroom. It's disgusting. They are very loud neighbours and have parties until 5am on a small terraced residential street. We've been over to complain about noise and the man is off his face on party drugs. It's very scary.
I am planning to have a word with him again when I next see him. No idea what to do from there, but it's very upsetting. Our house has gone up for sale.

Our house smells of weed constantly due to next door neighbours who sit on the front step smoking it. Our house is terraced and their front step is right next to ours (layout of each house is reversed alternately). It drives me mad.
