Weight watchers or Slimming World?

Has anybody tried both and found one to be better than the other?

I've lost weight with weightwatchers in the past but that was on the old old old scheme. I don't seem to be able to get on board with all the changes they've made.

Is slimming world as good as people say?

I found SW easier to get my head round. There's lots of good blogs out there with good recipes for SW and WW.

I've lost 4.5st on SW and maintained my loss for 9 months. Have lost 5.5st altogether.

I've lost 4 stone with slimming world and kept it off for over a year so would definitely recommend giving it a go!

WitBeyondMeasure · 30/12/2018 06:31

Wow that sounds very positive!
I find with weight watchers I do well but get bored quickly. It annoys me that pasta and potato are so highly pointed given that I have a young family that seem to want to exist of pasta and potato 😂

I prefer slimming world because I think it’s easier when you’re cooking for lots of people. You don’t have to worry about portion sizes as much.

I lost 4 stone on SW and plan to do it again in the new year now that I’ve had my baby.

shpoot · 30/12/2018 07:50

Another vote for SW.

Screamqueenz · 30/12/2018 08:04

I prefer WW and have lost 2.5 stone and kept it off for 2 years, but honestly, I think if you stick to the rules of either plan they work.

WW is very focussed on a holistic approach now, it's about overall well-being rather than just weight loss, which I prefer.

I think the method behind weight watchers is much better although it does seem like slimming world are improving on this.

I found with slimming world you need a lot of time to research and prepare food and if you dont it gets repetitive very quickly. Definitely loose weight quicker on slimming world though.

With weight watchers i felt like i was educating myself more about making better choices. With slimming world i felt like i was excluding a lot although i never ever really used sins when doing slimming world but it sounds like people cope better when they do.

TruckLoadOfSubtleGlitter · 30/12/2018 08:50

Following.

I lost absolutely nothing on, SW and was constantly starving (I was breast feeding a 4 month old baby) and they were as helpful as a chocolate tea pot.

I now have a 10 day old baby and considering WW if I can't get down to my pre prey weight naturally.

I found weight watchers online really easy to follow and there is a really supportive community. I loved seeinf everyones progress pictures really spurred me on.

Weight watchers looks at calories and exercise and slimming world must be loosely based on this but they say you can eat unlimited pasta and potatoes. People who do do this on slimming world will struggle due to the calorie content of both. I remember at slimming world group a member claiming to only eat muller lights but never loosing weight. Again the calorie content was high compared to other fat free yogurts etc.

Groovee · 30/12/2018 10:11

All the consultants I have had take my group have said "eat til you are full!" And to not over eat if you aren't hungry on SW. People wrongly hear "eat as much as you want" and start binging. I do consider my portion size as I suffer from reflux. I also put my 1/3rd speed veg/fruit on my plate first before I reach for the carbs or protein,

In the old days of red and green, I was always so hungry on green days but feeling full on red days. Under extra easy, I rarely feel hungry and will use my syns on meals like including Za'atar spice or gravy. But I cook from scratch most days and never really use the Iceland meals.

I like how the labels in Iceland tell you if it's a free food on Slimming world. Their stir fry mix is a great help to have in the freezer along with their chicken slices for when I'm running late.

SW gets weight off quickly but it never stays off for me as following the plan when not actively dieting is a pain in the arse.

WhenLifeGivesYouLemonsx · 30/12/2018 10:22

Neither.

I've lost weight on SW, but after a while it really messed with my head and cost too much money to keep paying for a membership and going food shopping.

I now eat sensibly, use MFP to work out roughly how many calories I am consuming and exercise using YouTube workout videos via chromecast! All free.

Rarfy · 30/12/2018 14:44

I would go down MFP route in future tbh it's free and does the right thing of counting calories and measuring it against activity. I think you can do similar on the fitbit app nowadays as well.

Nineoutoftenducks · 30/12/2018 15:30

I’ve tried MFP, Sw and WW.

WW was my most successful, no need to count every item of food and I managed to cut my portion size dramatically mainly by logging the points for pasta and rice, I used to eat vast amounts of both.

I will do WW again after Christmas to get back down to just under 9 stone as it’s crept on a bit after Christmas and a bad back.

WW also works for me as I don’t cope so well counting calories (past eating disorders) so numbers are better for me.

Nineoutoftenducks · 30/12/2018 15:32

...when I say it’s crept on a bit, my BMI is still only 22.9 so I’m not one of those ‘they piled it all on afterwards’ statistics! I’ve just got more round my tummy than I’m happy with.
