Help, feeling daft but I think my son has broken my nose

He head-butted me in the face at about 8pm last night.

It really bloody hurt and made me eyes water. I felt ringing in my ears for a few seconds.

I've woken up 15 minutes ago and it's still extremely painful, especially on one side.

Do I need to see someone? Blush

I haven't really had a proper look but I feel absolutely no swelling and don't think there's bruising.

Thank you Thanks

How old/strong is he? Are we talking about a baby or a teenager?

broodymareisnotmystyle · 30/12/2018 03:47

Sorry, should've said. He's 14 months

Ok, so it isn't a domestic violence situation, phew!

I'd go to the GP on Monday if it's still sore.

My friend broke her mums nose as a toddler and cracked the back of her skull when she was around his age. She still has the scar and damage now so it’s highly possible.

broodymareisnotmystyle · 30/12/2018 07:00

Sorry for that huge drip feed Grin he is a little thug

I am really sore. He also scratched the inside of my nose yesterday and that is still sore!

I think if your nose is actually broken it would probably be swollen, possibly you'd have black eyes to go with it.

That's not to minimise the pain though; I remember my son doing the same at that age and the pain was incredible. Flowers

listsandbudgets · 30/12/2018 07:12

My DS did the same to me a couple of times around that age. The pain was incredible and like you I thought my nose was at the very least broken but the pain subsided within 24 hours or so.

Hope it feels better soon. Some toddlers are inconsiderate thugs!!

Camomila · 30/12/2018 08:26

I sympathise. DS has given me a split lip/bleeding mouth a few times by bouncing backwards on to my lap (he is 2)

HemlockStarglimmer · 30/12/2018 08:58

This happened to me too while we were on a plane. No visible damage but sore and a slight grating when I gently felt my nose. After a few days it was back to normal.
I didn't go the doctor but would have if it had been very swollen or displaced.
I was much more wary on the plane ride home 👃🏻

JustMarriedAndLovingIt · 30/12/2018 09:00

Definitely GP. But a bruised nose can be almost as painful as a broken one (boisterous toddler too) do you may be OK. Hugs.

WickedGoodDoge · 30/12/2018 09:06

My friend’s dog broke her nose once by head butting her. Grin She had two black eyes and very swollen nose. I agree with the others, if it’s not swollen/bruised I’d hold off until tomorrow and see how I was doing.

broodymareisnotmystyle · 30/12/2018 09:07

Thanks all Thanks

I woke up this morning and I think it does look a bit swollen. Can anyone see what I mean?

It's the top half of the nose

ineedtolovemyself · 30/12/2018 09:14

I had no swelling or black eyes when I broke my nose, just a lot of blood when it was hit.

WickedGoodDoge · 30/12/2018 09:17

It does look swollen but I will refrain from further comment as my extensive medical knowledge comes from binge watching Grey’s Anatomy and is probably not particularly helpfu. Grin

GrandmaSharksDentures · 30/12/2018 09:24

Ok, it could well be broken - noses break very easily. In my area you are best being seen in the Urgent Care Centre (or whatever it's called near you), they will then arrange a non emergency appt with ENT. This can also be arranged via your GP but generally getting a GP appt takes too long.
I work in the urgent care centre & we are well used to seeing people whose babies have broken their nose!

BikeRunSki · 30/12/2018 09:29

It looks swollen to me.

SalmonLeBon · 30/12/2018 09:30

DS broke DH's nose, bouncing to 'help' get his PJ bottoms on. It was about the 5th time it had been broken, so DH just straightened it out and carried on!

A few days later, he did a similar thing toe, except he caught me under the chin and gave me a whiplash/concussion type injury and I had to take time off work. That was fun trying to explain to HR 🤣

WeShouldOpenABar · 30/12/2018 09:34

I'm sure ds broke my nose headbutting me I figured all the hospital would do is reset it and it didn't look out of place so I just left it, was more sure when I rebroke it blowing my nose too hard! Would love an xray at some point to prove myself right but its healing fine if a little sore occasionally so don't think hospital would have made any difference.
