Are you enclosing a CV?

Loopylou6 · 29/12/2018 18:59

I am, but it also asks for a covering letter

If you have experience, then write about what aspects of the job you enjoyed, also the parts of the job which you feel are important to the success of the business. Did you do anything to improve sales or efficiency? If you know about the ethos of the business you’re applying too, can you write about how that aligns with your own values?

Main things to state are that you’re a team player, who enjoys personal customer facing interactions and are keen to continue studying. Most OAs have to go on short courses to further their knowledge on how to dispense spectacles.

Do get a copy of CV for dummies, it's a brilliant book that I've used many times and does covering letters.

1st para: why this company/this location (look at their mission statement/ values on website etc)
2nd para: your interest in the role, eg why do you want to be an optical assistant if it's your first time doing it, what you have enjoyed about it in the past if not
3rd para: why you are perfect for this position. Base it on the qualities/skills they ask for in job description (likely to be the customer service/ team player stuff mentioned above but check what they have said they are looking for)

Sorry, just re-read and saw you have experience! Include any tangible evidence of how you have been successful e.g. sales/efficiency targets met; positive comments in performance management/feedback from customers; specific examples of how you improved a process etc

Highlight each part of the job description as you go along to make sure you've covered it in either CV or cover letter- or both for things they mention more than once

Thanks everyone, sorry for late reply, I'll have a good read through them now
