Ds’s headphones-I haven’t got a leg to stand on, have I?

Looking round for things to make up a full load this morning- found ds’s jeans on the floor of his bedroom and chucked them in. Headphones in the pocket-now dead. I can’t argue that it was his fault for not checking the pockets and putting them in the basket, can I? Particularly as he is insisting they didn’t need washing anyway? Bugger. Any other argument I could use to make it not my fault?

He shouldnt have left them on the floor in the first place they could have been stood on.
If clothes are on the floor you cant be expected to know if he wants them washing or not. They go in the laundry basket or cupboard not the floor.

TulipsInbloom1 · 29/12/2018 16:28

Clothes on the floor of his bedroom should be left on the floor of the bedroom. Only wash whats in the laundry basket.

Burnt0range · 29/12/2018 16:28

No argument needed; just replace them for not checking yourself.

ChippyMinton · 29/12/2018 16:30

I can’t believe you think there is even the slightest idea that your DS was at fault.

Why are you doing his laundry anyway?

BigFarmer · 29/12/2018 16:33

Your fault. Do try putting them in rice though, my son's headphones survived a 60 wash.

SneakyGremlins · 29/12/2018 16:34

Food baby brain? Xmas Grin

BertrandRussell · 29/12/2018 16:35

I wasn’t “doing his washing”- I was filling up a load. We care too much about the environment to do half loads. And of course I’ll replace them. We’re just having a mock battle about it. Hadn’t thought of suggesting that if I hadn’t washed them he would have stood on them-I’ll try that one.

What kind of headphones were they?

I’m afraid I don’t think DS is at fault. Sorry.

Dothehappydance · 29/12/2018 16:35

Sorry no,

Why are you doing his laundry anyway?

Apart from not knowing how old her ds is, it is generally considered fairly usual to wash all clothes together in one load, what a waste of everything for each person to be doing their own small loads.

TheFuckfaceWhisperer · 29/12/2018 16:36

Why are you doing his laundry anyway?

Don’t most people wash their own kids clothes?

InternetRandomer · 29/12/2018 16:41

Why are you doing his laundry anyway?

Only on Mumsnet would this even be a question.

BertrandRussell · 29/12/2018 16:42

He’s 17. If he was doing washing he would make sure he had a full load too.

TulipsInbloom1 · 29/12/2018 16:42

If there isnt enough laundry in the basket to do a full load then just leave it til there is. Surely?

BertrandRussell · 29/12/2018 16:42

Because environment.

“If there isnt enough laundry in the basket to do a full load then just leave it til there is.“

Well yes-apart from the fact that I want a particular outfit to wear tomorrow and it’s dirty....

Don’t most people wash their own kids clothes?

Didn’t you know MNer’s kids wash their own clothes from the age of 3? And all couples do separate washing too.

No leg to stand on here op, I did this once with DP’s smart watch. Completely my own fault going around picking up things to fill the machine. Luckily it was a cheap crappy one.

abbsisspartacus · 29/12/2018 16:44

Ok it's his fault because headphones don't belong in pockets = his fault for putting them there

RedSkyLastNight · 29/12/2018 16:45

I would be triply wrong if this was my DS

  • going into his room without his permission
  • washing things that didn't need to be washed
  • ruining the headphones
TulipsInbloom1 · 29/12/2018 16:52

Ok it's his fault because headphones don't belong in pockets where do they belong then? His headphones. In his trousers. In his room.

user139328237 · 29/12/2018 16:59

How is it any better for the environment to wash a full load when half of it doesn't need washing that to wash a half load in any case?

simonisnotme · 29/12/2018 17:04

Mners arnt allowed to wash their childrens clothes if theyre older than 3/can operate a washing machine
however in a 'normal house' any clothes that may need washing or are the appropriate colour get chucked in

GypsyRoseTea · 29/12/2018 17:06

I’ve washed the kids apple earphones a few times and they still work

Calvinsmam · 29/12/2018 17:07

I thought if you put a half load in the machine weighs it and doesn’t use as much water, is that not a thing?
Do you not have a half load setting on your machine?

Spudlet · 29/12/2018 17:07

They might survive! We managed to wash dh's headphones the other day, and after being left to dry for a day or so they were fine, and probably much more hygenic. Don't chuck them yet!

MepsiPax · 29/12/2018 17:08

And here we go again with the 'Why are you doing his laundry?' question. For a start, most mums do their children's' laundry, and secondly,do people in the same household really do their laundry separately? I mean,in a house with 2 adults and 2 children, would you really have each one doing individual loads of just their clothes? What a waste of electricity and water.
