Ds’s headphones-I haven’t got a leg to stand on, have I?

Looking round for things to make up a full load this morning- found ds’s jeans on the floor of his bedroom and chucked them in. Headphones in the pocket-now dead. I can’t argue that it was his fault for not checking the pockets and putting them in the basket, can I? Particularly as he is insisting they didn’t need washing anyway? Bugger. Any other argument I could use to make it not my fault?

My teens clothes stink after one wear.

ILoveChristmasLights · 29/12/2018 17:41

Also as a teen I'd have been furious if my parents started rifling my clothes

‍🤷🏻‍♀️ ‘Don’t leave them on the floor then’

winsinbin · 29/12/2018 17:41

Sorry OP I agree that if it’s not in the basket (or at least on the floor in close proximity to the basket because the basket is overflowing) it shouldn’t have been taken out of the floordrobe.

It would have probably been more environmentally friendly and definitely cheaper to have done a half load.

Saucery · 29/12/2018 17:47

I’ve just stuck stuck a full load of random washing on that may or may not have been sortable into Could Wear Again v Minging in protest at some of the responses on this thread.

dementedma · 29/12/2018 17:53

it was entirely DS's fault. he should be aware that you are prone to very kindly washing his clothes at any given time and should be making sure all pockets are empty at all times!
he is a very lucky boy to even HAVE pockets ffs!
he sounds thoroughly ungrateful

Bowchicawowow · 29/12/2018 17:54

guacatrole Seriously? You’d have been furious at your parents ‘rifling’ through your clothes? How dare they do you a favour by washing your dirty clothes Confused

adviceonthepox · 29/12/2018 17:54

I've washed my teens headphones numerous times as I tell them to empty blazer pockets before bringing them down to be washed, I give the blazers a shake if nothing falls out chuck them in the washing machine, they usually get tumble dried too 😂
All apple headphones and they usually still work

BertrandRussell · 29/12/2018 17:58

Grin @demetedmama.

They actually did need washing- they had paw prints on them-I don’t wash things that don’t need washing!

dementedma · 29/12/2018 18:00

after doing some laundry recently, one of ds(16) socks remained forlornly on the floor. It was damp to the touch so I sniffed it to see if it was sweaty damp and needed to be washed, or washed damp and it needed to be hung up.
Big mistake!!! Wank sock damp. Bleurgh.........

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 29/12/2018 18:04

How come the population of mumsnet is 90% miserable cunts these days?

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 29/12/2018 18:04

they have some LOVELY unicorn earphones in lidl...maybe even some ladybug ones too.

RedSkyLastNight · 29/12/2018 18:17

They actually did need washing- they had paw prints on them

But did your DS think they needed washing? Grin

kateandme · 29/12/2018 18:17

so glad we live in a house where we don't mind doing eachothers washing.
it wasn't until joining mumsnet where I thought,im lucky to have my family quite so much over these little things!
its called sharing the load.literally.

kateandme · 29/12/2018 18:21

winsinbin
floordrobe!love it.im having that if you don't mind.my mum will love it!brother and sister home for chrismtas and this is exactly what the corners of their rooms look like :D

bananasandwicheseveryday · 29/12/2018 18:47

I am another one who doesn't understand the 'why are you doing his washing?' brigade. It's always made sense to me to fill the machine rather than insist that everyone does their own - ds2 would turn the machine on for the sake of just one shirt if I took that attitude. Far better to make up a load with everybody's clothes imo.
However, I do have the rule that dirty washing has to be in the wash bin. If it's on the floor of their room, it stays there. I am not their servant and don't go into the room. Only one DC is still at home, but, as an adult, I expect them to take care of their room for themselves.
Sorry OP, I think you need to apologise and, if necessary, replace the headphones.

LesLavandes · 29/12/2018 19:04

I am guilty of this also. It happens but we should check the pockets

ChippyMinton · 29/12/2018 19:41

LOL at the ‘doing your own laundry’ outrage.

Everyone in this house (teens and above) is more than capable of operating the washer and dryer, and even pegging it out in good weather and ironing. With school/work clothes and other uniforms, sports kit and normal clothes we all have more than enough for a load or two each week. So why not do our own?

Teachermommy · 29/12/2018 19:49

This thread is like MN bingo!
Hilarious.

I think you have to take the blame op. Hope they weren't expensive headphones!

Teachermommy · 29/12/2018 19:51

All the 'doing your own laundry' people...do you each, individually, have a full load of whites? Because I can only fill a machine with whites once a week between the whole family! Not sure how doing our own would ever work!

multivac · 29/12/2018 20:00

You STEALTHWASHED his jeans; you deserve everything you get...

multivac · 29/12/2018 20:00

And consider yourself lucky; it could have been a tissue.

bananasandwicheseveryday · 29/12/2018 20:02

For us, Chippy, it's just one of those things we do to help each other. Just as DC1 cleans mine and DH's cars when he does his own. Just as whoever cooks does so for everyone in the house. It's the way our family works.

Bound · 29/12/2018 20:08

If I was your son I would now counter argue that in your bid to save the environment you will now need to buy another set of plastic headphones and incur associated carbon footprint impact (shipping, manufacturing etc).

The environment would have thanked you for the one less pair of jeans in the wash GrinGrin

meditrina · 29/12/2018 20:09

I bet you hung them out and let them get darked on too!

Catsandbootsandbootsandcats · 29/12/2018 20:09

I've washed headphones loads of times and they usually work after. It's obviously his own fault for having crap headphones that can't go through a wash. Wink

There's no individual washing here. Everything goes in the laundry basket (or the floor!) and we all put washing on when we need it or the DCs will do it when I ask. If it's on the floor scrunched up it will put in the machine.

And I almost never check pockets, I always forget!
