this year was very much bah humbug. partner and i both worked the whole of xmas and i didnt bother with a tree at all.

next year i would like to be a bit more festive. i would like a decent looking artificial tree and some glass baubles.

does anyone have any recommendations for great looking trees that dont cost the earth? seen some that are stupidly priced at 600plus just for a tree!

im thinking buy now as many might be in sales!

Balsam Hill January sales!

Athena51 · 29/12/2018 15:58

Balsam Hill are amazing and you can get them at a decent price in the sales, they still aren't cheap but they are so good.

Balsam Hill 😀

Balsam Hill best £300 (in the sale) I’ve ever spent Xmas Grin get the Pre lit one tho!!

EdWinchester · 29/12/2018 16:02

I would go for a completely fake one. I like the white pre-lit birch ones in John Lewis.

Fake trees that attempt to look real are just naff imo. Even those fancy Balsam Hill jobbies.

Fabulouslyfatatfifty · 29/12/2018 16:06

Balsam Hill here too, I have got one lit and one unlit. I prefer the unlit one with warm white candle lights from amazon.

purpleelk · 29/12/2018 16:06

Agree, Balsam Hill slim range is brilliant - they’re tall but don’t take too much floor space. Everyone assumed we found the perfectly proportioned real tree and couldn’t tell it was artificial until they touched it.

The lights are also perfectly placed - it’s like a Christmas tree from a Hollywood movie Grin

Ebay - Seriously there are some epic bargains on there. My pre-lit tree and garland cost me £5.50, and would have been over £130 when new. People want rid as they change their minds, or it's taking up too much space.

coppercolouredtop · 29/12/2018 17:46

Can I ask about the prelit ones....is the whole tree defunct if the lights go tho? Or are the lights removable?

I got a non lit fake tree that looks very realistic. It was from homebase for £64 in sale. It was the weight of th3 balsam hill ones that put me off as well as the cost although I did nearly buy one.

Paddingtonthebear · 29/12/2018 17:52

John Lewis 7 foot Emerald Peruvian. Most realistic fake I could find. Cheaper than Balsam Hill.

SpreadHummusNotHate · 29/12/2018 17:57

If you’re a Costco member I got brilliant prelit tree there this year - was about £200

Witchend · 29/12/2018 18:29

I went to Longacre's and got one marked down from£240 to £60 last January.
Dh is still saying it's too big, but I think it looks great.

Sedona123 · 29/12/2018 18:35

Balsam Hill. Ours has just been used for the fifth consecutive year and still looks fantastic.

coppercolouredtop · 30/12/2018 18:41

dp says we need a slim line one? do we? how fat are the 6ft -ers?

Can i jump in and ask how strong the branches are? I have a few quite heavy baubles and our current tree is struggling a bit

Fabulouslyfatatfifty · 30/12/2018 19:07

Strong green, I have some heavy blown glass baubles which I just put on a branch rather than a small twig end.

dudsville · 30/12/2018 19:11

All our friends have real trees. Everyone assumes our balsam hill is real and were admiring it. I think before the decorations are put on you notice the fake trunk, but once the branches are fixed in a lifelike position and decorated it looks real.

dudsville · 30/12/2018 19:12

Ps, if you get aprelut one i think they might look more fake. Get unlit and arrange your lights.

thetwinkletoescollective · 30/12/2018 19:23

I looked for ages and ages a few years ago at tonnes and the best one I found (and bought) was a pre-lit one from tesco for £50. Three years on and it looks just as good.

I put a wicker apron (?) on the bottom from John Lewis that cost £30.
