Wisdom tooth at 6????

delilabell · 29/12/2018 13:11

Ds has had three front teeth fall out in two weeks. He's jusy said my back tooth fallen out. Nope it looks like he's got a wisdom tooth breaking the skin.
I've triple counted his teeth and it's definetly one more than he should have.
Is this normal at this age?

It will be his first permanent molar. They come in behind the last baby molars. Brush it well, it's got a long time to last.

APositiveMind · 29/12/2018 13:13

How many teeth does he have in total?
Like how many molars?

APositiveMind · 29/12/2018 13:14

His wisdom teeth will not have even formed in his jaw yet.

It will be his first permanent molars coming through, otherwise known as 'six year molars' as they generally come through around 6 years old.

How do I not know about this? If I count his teeth at the front that have jusy fallen out he now has 11 teeth at the bottom

Maybe have a google. They're such important teeth, often missed in brushing.

Rubusfruticosus · 29/12/2018 13:29

6 year old molars are the first permanent teeth, when these come through they should have 24 teeth (12 top, 12 bottom) minus any baby teeth they have lost. Then there is the 12 year old molars, making 28, before wisdom teeth (should they get them).

OddestSock · 29/12/2018 13:29

It's his 6 year molars. He'll get another 4 when he's about 12 & wisdom teeth when he's an adult. A full set of teeth is 32 (including wisdom teeth)

Fretfulparent · 29/12/2018 22:21

I was taught the Sixth tooth on each side come through at six years old -(the 6's at 6)
