Will we get sick? Huge emetophobe here - help!

As the title says really... we were with family Boxing Day and I've just been told today (more than two days later) that one of the girls who was playing with me and my son was sick in the night (after we had gone home). Writing this I know how utterly mad it sounds but I'm worried that one of us will now get sick. I'm so terrified of vomit, I've not been able to think of anything else since DH told me this morning. He was like 'it's been 48 hours so I can tell you about it now because you won't worry now 48 hours have gone past' and of course I'm now worrying!! Please reassure me that a) she was not sick until 6 hours after we left so therefore wasn't contagious while we were there, and b) it's over 48 hours since she was sick so we will will be ok, and c) no one else in her immediate family got sick so we probably won't either.

Thanks!

I'm an emetophobe as well and my heart always sinks when I hear someone we've been around has been sick / sickness bug is doing the rounds at school.

I have 2 school age children so I've had to deal with a few bugs, and I'm actually better when they are ill (the anticipation of knowing we've been around a bug / waiting to see if they puke if they complained of feeling sick makes me so anxious but I can cope with looking after them if they do vomit!)

Chances are you'll be ok. Fingers crossed for you.

Ds2 had it on Christmas day. Ds1 came down with it last night. I thought he'd escaped as the 48 hours were up and I'd bleached the house.

Strugglingonagain · 29/12/2018 10:51

Emetophobe here too, get your worry!

I would think the chances are low now, especially as she wasn't sick until after you left. Try not to worry (impossible I know!)

octoberbaby2010 · 29/12/2018 11:21

Same here, although I can't spell it but have the phobia and I agree it's horrendous!!
Could she have possibly eaten too much? I think it's very unlikely now as it's been over 48 hours. Take yourself off for a nice walk and try and think of something else... easier said than done but I find this helps!! Xx

thesnapandfartisinfallible · 29/12/2018 11:36

Doubt it. Most stomach bug type illnesses only take 24 hours to incubate. You'd be feeling it by now.

redtulip19 · 29/12/2018 13:04

I had to do a women hair who was sick the day before And didn't tell me! 😡
That was a week ago and I can say as she didn't tell me, she will need to find another hairdresser
I feel your pain xx

The girl might have been sick due to a few days of (over) eating stuff she doesnt eat the rest of the year.

Fingers crossed for you.

I'm just going through this now also but a different situation - DH and I got diarrhoea on boxing day, DH was sick once but I just felt nauseous, both ok again by Thursday. One of my sisters was sick Christmas day night then the other one started 24hrs later (we were with them Christmas and boxing day before getting ill). Both my DCs are still ok ...... Hoping we are out of the woods now with them catching it!

Strugglingonagain · 30/12/2018 13:04

How are you doing OP?

hughjackmanswife · 30/12/2018 14:53

Hi all thanks for the messages of support. So far so good... but I ate some slightly undercooked sausages this morning so now my anxiety is through the roof for that!! Omg the things my brain does to me it's ridiculous!! They were frozen cocktail sausages which are meant to be cooked from frozen, for 25 minutes and I cooked them for 22 and am now being pathetic about getting food poisoning!

How do you cope op with the anxiety?
Since having my lo I have such a massive fear or her or me becomin. I'll! So hard to enjoy anything !
I can cope with coughs n cold it's the d&v I dread 😖😖

thaegumathteth · 30/12/2018 18:49

Were the sausages cooked all the way through? IE hot?

hughjackmanswife · 30/12/2018 19:45

@thaegumathteth yes they were piping hot in the middle and not pink at all xx

So that’s fine then.

hughjackmanswife · 30/12/2018 19:49

@redtulip19 tbh I'm not sure I cope very well! My anxiety is less than it used to be after having cbt through talking therapies, I no longer have serious panic attacks where I make myself feel physically ill... I talk myself out of feeling bad by thinking about PST times which were similar and where things didn't happen ie sickness, and I also sometimes try to tell myself 'what's the worst that could happen if we did get sick', but it's so hard and some days it completely dominates my thoughts like yesterday and today. But I also try to remember what my therapist told me which was that d and v is the body's way of ridding is of something that could really harm us if it didn't make its way out and that helps sometimes too. Hope you're ok xx

Hopefully everything is fine but I totally understand where you are coming from. I have a huge phobia that has taken over my life completely. My DS is 2.5 and the light of my life but I'm so petrified of us all getting ill.
