So I randomly checked my online account to find we were -500 .. We both get paid Monday so had a little left to cover the weekend

Anyway called Nationwide fraud team they said they don't know who tried to take the payment but it's in error the money won't be claimed but it's in holding usually takes 8 days but will rush it through 2 working days .. WTF that means if we didn't have savings we could be completely out of cash all weekend through no fault of our own.

I'm shocked that any company can do this and even more shocked that I can't find out what company bloody did this!

Just wondered if this has happened to anyone else ?

Is it a debit card transaction? The payment can get reserved on the account before the money actually comes out and they won't know who has taken the payment for a few days. Have they offered an overdraft facility on the account?

Have you booked a holiday recently? There was a recent thread where the full balance had been taken unexpectedly, not sure how it panned out.

It might be Expedia we did make a booking on Boxing Day for flights but it's not the same amount , bank offered no advice and yes it was a debit card 😕

Tell Expedia that you would like the £100 they have offered taken off THIS booking, not a future one

BeCozReasons · 29/12/2018 17:59

Yep already gone back with this waiting a response , it's all happening via twitter DM as they didn't respond to my email

The bank should be able to manually remove the authorisation.

BeCozReasons · 29/12/2018 18:00

The bank said the fastest turn around is 2working days he said usually it can take 7 . I wonder if I should call bank again ?

That sounds like they are waiting for it to expire though. It sounds like a pre auth and if the merchant doesn’t claim it the auth will vanish and your funds will become available again.
Ask if they will manually remove it.

They might need the merchant to cancel from their side.

I’ve had this and I had to get the retailer to give me some sort of code, which I relayed to the bank and they reversed the transaction very quickly. If I’d just left it the bank said it could take ten days to be available again!
