Creative sorts sought: dyeing or painting leather shoes

Wasn't sure where to post this.
I bought some very comfy Dr Marten court shoes for a fiver in a charity shop today. They are not a colour I would wear (cream) but I'd like to either dye them orange or paint them multi coloured. They are nubuck/dull leather. Any experiences in doing this or advice on technique or products?

It takes a few coats of the paint on dye, so don't get annoyed first go. Oh and the thread may not dye if it's waxed, which seems likely. But it works amazingly well.

Sorry, missed a bit. I used dylon shoecdye but it's a limited colour palette. And I used a much better brush, the scratchy one supplied would make a hell of a mess.

Thank you. Was going to use a sponge spreader on a stick. Would it work on nubuck?

Nubuck dyes really well in my experience, better than leather. Use Dylon suede & nubuck Shoe dye.
