Would this annoy you?

If a family member gave your child a gift second hand ( an ornament from their house) but gave all other children in the family something new?

Trying not to be annoyed by it but the more I thinks about it the more it's getting to me.

For more detail my dd is under 10 and the ornament was a stone elephant that she's had on her coffee table for as long as I can remember.

Yes it would, unless said item is something the child has admired and asked about.
Initial impression is it's a panic present.

How odd ! Yep i'd be bemused and a bit annoyed. Has anyone said anything to the relative ?

ErrolTheDragon · 28/12/2018 11:25

I'd probably be baffled, unless the child had at some point expressed particular admiration for that elephant. Is that a possibility?

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 28/12/2018 11:27

I would take this is as a special gift for somebody very well liked.
(It would be in my family.
I once got a little dice made from green glass. It's been 50 years and I still have it.)

It depends, we need more information. Does your DD particularly like elephants, has she expressed an interest in the elephant? Does this happen often with that DD?

Jodielie · 28/12/2018 13:19

No, dd doesn't particularly like elephants.

Last year her Christmas present was also a little odd but didn't want to seem ungrateful.

The other presents that she gave to children around dds age was a sealed board game, boxed and sealed Disney princess doll and girls Lego set.

Dd was obviously upset to be given a dusty, scratched ornament to open in front of everyone Sad

Next year I may say we will not be exchanging any presents

Seems like a rubbish present doesn't it? Do you think they forgot to buy DD something then looked around their house and thought the ornament would do?
