Read receipts between different phone types

Hi, I have an iPhone and I have texted someone with a non-iPhone smart phone. I presume it's a Samsung but I suppose it could be something else. Anyway, my texts to him appear green rather than blue. Is there a way I can know whether he has

1. Received them?
2. Read them?

I don’t believe you can. I’m on an iPhone and my DH is Android and I’ve never been able to see the delivery receipts in the same way.

I have my own read receipts turned off though!

Green is a paid for text
Blue is a WiFi iMessage sent like an email

Click on the person
Click the picture icon and information
Switch read receipts on

Too late for this message but future ones will show up

@GreenTulips Do you do this in the text message at the top? Tried it on my iPhone and iPad but there's no option for the receipt.
