Are they expecting lunch?

BIL popped in xmas eve with our prezzies and we discussed possibly getting together tomorrow, no mention of where, food etc. BIL has phoned and suggested noon tomorrow. At that time I reckon they're expecting lunch, DH says not. Would you be expecting lunch at that time?

We do owe them a meal sometime (although we've often suggested and they've not taken us up on it) but it now means going out, getting food and as we've had three days of entering three different lots, I'm feeling lazy and don't want to do anything major.

I suggested to DH just doing some jacket potatoes with beans, cheese, tuna or buying some party packs to warm up (but I don't think my niece would eat these).

Noon, yes they will be. What do you have in? What about going for lunch somewhere?

Awrite · 27/12/2018 09:56

Yes, noon means lunch. Couple of big pizzas, bag of salad in a bowl and cakes for after.

Foonababoonalagoona · 27/12/2018 09:56

Why don't you just get a takeaway ,?, say your knackered couldn't be arsed to go shopping. It's a bit short noticr do I'm sure everyone would be happy with that

Domino's. You will feel as filthy as anything afterwards but effort = zero.

Yes, if it’s noon then they’d probably expect lunch unless they specifically mentioned not to bother about food. I’d have something to hand in case they stay a while which can be offered/prepared.

Gotstuckwiththisname · 27/12/2018 10:00

Yes I'd do lunch. Something easy like a big chilli, or some party food.

IPromiseIWontBeNaughty · 27/12/2018 10:02

This doesn’t actually need marinading but does taste better if you can for a couple of hours - this is my go to, I also chuck in a couple of bags of new potatoes. Put in the oven & forget about it.

Popchyk · 27/12/2018 10:03

Jacket potatoes is absolutely fine.

Or soup. Or sandwiches with leftovers.

A lot of people will have been overindulging on the rich food so would welcome plainer stuff. I know I would.

@IPromiseIWontBeNaughty Did you miss posting what you actually suggest?

MyOtherProfile · 27/12/2018 10:08

How far are they coming and how long do they usually stay? If they're c9m8ng from 10 mins away and usually stay an hour then I'd guess no lunch. If they're coming from an hour away and usually stay a couple of hours then I'd say yes lunch.

To be sure I would just message them and say "Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow - just checking you're all happy to stay for lunch?"

Thanks other - so embarrassing!! And I’m not even hung over this morning Wink

ifonly4 · 27/12/2018 14:45

Thanks everyone. I do actually have enough potatoes, fillings and salad - not sure my niece will eat much of it as she I've never seen her eat veg. We do have a couple of nice icecreams so could offer with fruit. We have one bottle of wine, but I suspect if they're hoping for lunch they might bring a bottleSmile.

MyOtherProfile, they are only 5 mins by car. Long story but we don't often see eachother, just normally hour long get togethers for birthdays, xmas and we've been to theirs for bbq, so I think that's why I'm wondering if lunch is expected.

I know I'm being lazy today is the only day free together, so don't want to traispe to supermarket if I can help it before Saturday (when we have more guestsShock.
