New year traditions?

We have just had the most brilliant Christmas with PIL and our two DC.
Normally I find the days after Christmas a bit flat and we don’t do much .
We don’t have plans New Year’s Eve this year either which I am happy with.

But this has got me wondering what do others with small DC (5&7) do to make New Year exciting and memorable too ?
They are too little to stay up for midnight .

Just looking for inspiration it would be nice to have some new New Year traditions as they get older .

We are hoping to see Mary Poppins , got neighbours coming for drinks etc - but we have done all our entertaining so for once have some breathing to do something as a family ... would a treasure hunt be weird ??

What do you do ?
All ideas gratefully received !

Why can't they stay up until midnight? My 4 year old will be.

We always go to friends who also have children. The kids play and watch films and the adults eat, drink and get merry. It's chilled out and the kids love the inevitable living room disco. Such a good laugh....can't wait for this year.

thanks Blaa I did think others probably keep their kids up - ours just don’t have the stamina and if we are just at home there’s no party to warrant it !
Yours sounds lovely we don’t have evening p plans at All and we are perfectly happy having a quiet night in - more wondering how to make it fun during the daytime.
No local friends with similar aged kids .
