Have a look in the short haul topic.

Get tickets for the water taxi. Head to Murano island. Just take it all in.

Have a browse of this website, it’s created by a couple who love Venice and it’s so useful: europeforvisitors.com/venice/

And at the risk of sounding argumentative, if you’re only there for a couple of days, don’t bother with Murano. I visited it a few days ago and it was ok, but I think your time could be better spent.

Go on a tour of the synagogues- amazing!

Go to St Marks, the Basilica, go up the Campanile, don't buy coffee there, you'll need a mortgage, go to the Doge's Palace, across the Bridge of Sighs, Murano is pretty, but trips there are a sales pitch, go on a vaparetto, go on a gondola, go to the Grand Canal, the Rialto Bridge, wander aimlessly, find the only set of traffic lights, window shop, it's stunning, get up early, go to a caff, watch the sharp suited businessmen knock back ristretto and Campari for breakfast, go down any alley, find a restaurant, it'll be good, so will the wine. And Synagogues, and the Ospedale, and the bells, lots of bells! I envy you! Have lots of fun. And the Fenice, the theatre, tho you probably have to book years ahead!

I'm very very jealous. I absolutely loved Venice.

I don't think you can go wrong tbh. Just wander, eat anywhere that looks reasonably priced, take your time, get lost a lot.

We didn't do a gondola ride or go to Murano and didn't feel we missed out. We did take the vaporetto a lot, and we did a Doge's Palace tour, and both were wonderful.

These suggestions are great (and such a massive help) we are there for three days including NYE. OUr hotel is near St Marks Square so hoping to be in the square for midnight.

I am making notes and will compile a rough itinerary whilst at work tomorrow!
