So my LO is 16 weeks and has been ebf so far. I introduced a bottle at 3 weeks of expressed milk and he has always had 1 bottle of expressed milk at bedtimes from DH.

I'm ready to stop breastfeeding now for many reasons and I'm trying to introduce formula.

So far he will take a mix of my milk and formula and sometimes straight formula.

Problem is that he mostly will drink 2-3oz then refuse anymore and I have to give him some boob. I try not to be the one giving the formula, and we make sure there's not wind etc

I'm really keen to make the switch has anyone experienced similar or have any advice please

I have but it wasn't good. DS1 just wouldn't have it full stop. It was the bottle more than the milk he liked. Unfortunately apart from the HV there's not much support apart from forums. Trial and error until it happens. Maybe be out of the house when someone else tries it? Also babies use breast milk for comfort as well as food so baby might want it for cuddles/bonding.

Thanks for replying.
I'm concerned as my milk production has started to slow over the last few days and if he won't finish a feed on the bottle he's surely likely to lose weight? Such a mine field this feeding lark.

Has your supply slowed, or has baby just hit a growth spurt?

Pick a bottle, stick to it and get someone else to feed him when you're not around.

4 months probably isn't a great time to wean due to the growth spurt.

@gallicgirl I don't think the bottle is the problem as he's used to having one. I think it's more the flavour of formula?
My supply has slowed, I've got a very good supply but have been missing feeds due to him having a bottle and now it's slowing down.

I should add that I've been using my frozen milk also to mix with formula but I'm out of that now and since it's just straight formula stops drinking after 2-3 oz.

DS wouldn't switch. He started off with a bottle ok, but by 3/4 months would scream refusal until he either made himself sick or stopped breathing.

I'm not breastfeeding DC2!

Well I guess you need to either change the formula or build supply back up. Good luck whichever way you go.
