Any Twickenham/Richmond people who can advise?

I have tickets for Richmond panto, turns out there is a rugby match on (sob sob) can’t get on the train as physically there will be no room for an old lady and 3 children. So I was thinking of going a really long way round to avoid the a316 and go via the a4 then down by Kew Gardens and come at Richmond that way, also driving while the match is on, so between 3.30/4
What do you all think? Any other suggestions

Will I hit a brick wall of cars?

If it is the Wasps v Quins match on Saturday kick off isn't until 4. You may struggle for somewhere to park.
