It’s really uncomfortable to watch.

Talking in breathey voices, whispering down the camera, the comments on the YouTube ones are Envy uncomfortable reading

It’s weird right? It’s not just me? I’ve banned DDs from watching them

ASMR = Gentle Whispering, Google just told me. Confused

bringincrazyback · 26/12/2018 00:32

When you say kids, do you mean children making ASMR videos? I watch them quite often but it would be very weird somehow to watch one made by a child.

Harat · 26/12/2018 00:33

Easy way to build up subs and view counts as they're really popular will probably be why they're doing it. And not too hard to think up ideas or edit.

I like watching food asmr ones, they're relaxing.

thegreatbeyond · 26/12/2018 00:50

I like a couple made by adult women, but seeing a couple made by children was VERY weird and uncomfortable viewing.

Titsywoo · 26/12/2018 00:55

I love asmr. It send me to sleep. It stands for auto sensory meridian response. I've always had that thing where certain noises would make me relaxed and sleepy. Clearly lots of people do so now there are lots of videos on it. Some people assume it is sexual due to the whispering some people do on these. It's not at all but that thought may be whats making you uncomfortable with regards to the kids doing them. I hate the whispering personally. It's not all asmr is about. I dont think kids making youtube videos is a great idea in any respect but I don't see them doing asmr as a bad thing. Dd loves it to fall asleep too so might watch kids ones.

I have come across a few children doing Asmr and yes it's awkward/uncomfortable.

CassieTripper · 26/12/2018 01:06

These ASMR videos are a thing that my 12 y/o DD recently became obsessed with. I try not to limit too much of what she does on the net but having never heard of this phenomenon before I did a bit of research. It truly is astounding how many children have jumped aboard this bandwagon! I personally do not find it inherently sexual but it does at the very least make me feel quite uncomfortable. DD showed interest in doing ASMR herself and I very quickly shot it down. This is not something I would want my child doing on the internet it doesn't matter if it is sexual or not by nature you cannot control how other people view these videos and what their intentions are.

Thishatisnotmine · 26/12/2018 01:26

I love asmr (found it a few years ago when suffering from pregnancy triggered migraines). The idea of children having unrestricted access to youtube and being able to upload videos to the jnternet does make me uncomfortable though.

I suppose its easy to keep dd1 off youtube though as she is onĺy 4!

thegreatbeyond · 26/12/2018 01:26

I don't think the children making the videos are doing it with sexual intent or connotations, but I have no doubt that there will be adult men who will be viewing and commenting with that in mind, unfortunately.

Fuckyousanta · 26/12/2018 01:33

Yes they are being made by children and it's a combination of uncomfortable and cringing I think. Also the really long fake nails they have on to tap everything with. Very strange watching a ten year old girl in her bedroom tapping and stroking stuff with her long fake fingernails and whispering into a camera. Uncomfortable viewing. And they seem to have exploded recently.

I love ASMR. Right now I am watching on YouTube but I have never seen children do this.

Fuckyousanta · 26/12/2018 01:47

@SoleBizzz, I love it too, I only found them because DD had been watching on my laptop so they keep coming up in the suggestions on youtube.

Thanks for the warning though. I guess other children watching is O.K but not for normal adults I should think. I hope these children stay safe!
