DH spent loads on me!

I feel a bit guilty...but not too much as I suspect he wasn’t listening when we discussed Xmas which is partly why he has spent so much!
A month or so ago, DH said he can’t be. There’s to do Xmas for each other. I reminded him that we did that last year and he had complained that it was a bit crap not having any presents at Xmas. I suggested a £20 limit and he agreed.
I stuck to the agreement and have in return unwrapped a fair amount of great gifts. I feel bad that I got him so little when he got me so much!
Anyone else in this predicament or the reverse?!

I’m also feeling guilty as my DH bought me some lovely gifts. We did have a conversation and agreed we wouldn’t go wild this year. So I bought him three small presents and he has bought me lots of beautiful things.

Starfish28 · 25/12/2018 18:27

To everyone who hasn’t received a gift from their partner. I’m sorry that is shit.

I agree starfish. It isn’t like Xmas is a surprise.

I got dh some gold cufflinks
He got me some self help books
Usually it's the other way round

Minesril · 25/12/2018 19:15

DH always goes overboard. He loves Christmas. DS seems to be taking after him as he was more excited about me opening the presents he had picked than opening his own!

NotMaryWhitehouse · 25/12/2018 19:41

@Minesril aww, that's lovely! I look forward to that too- it's lovely to see people opening presents.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 25/12/2018 19:45

DH spent 3x what I did, we don't usually spend that much. I felt a bit bad but I had sorted out all the presents and stockings for both children, so have taken it with a smile.

Kikipost · 25/12/2018 19:47

I received £299 dyson hairdryer

From my ex husband!

Mummylife2018 · 25/12/2018 19:53

Reverse! Mine got me NOTHING!!!!! Apparently he didn't know what I'd like, so never got me anything Hmm

I spent a fortune on him :( Really quite disappointed but putting on a smile and pretending I'm not bothered

PenApple · 25/12/2018 19:55

I’m crap at buying for dh, despite being with him more than half my life as he’s very fussy and his hobby is specific taste to him (music) so I could never guess what to get.

In total I spent about £70 on him, surprises and music he wanted.

He got me a dyson hair dryer and a few other gifts. I feel awful, although very grateful!

Trippedupagain · 25/12/2018 20:08

I've had the same here - DH spent loads on me and I bought him a few things, nice things but nothing expensive. This tends to happen as there is always loads that I want (he picks up on things I say, I don't deliberately hint) and he is very difficult to buy for. I've stopped worrying about it as he enjoys spending money on me. I'll try harder for his birthday!

Crunchymum · 25/12/2018 20:25

Got an expensive perfume and a very expensive knife (random but def appreciated!!)

I got him nowt. I mean nowt but I did everything for Xmas. He just threw money at it Blush

Mummylife2018 · 25/12/2018 20:49

@arranbubonicplague Actually they're not....

DH spent loads on me!
Mummylife2018 · 25/12/2018 20:50

@GlassHeart1 Whaaaat? Your husband spent 5x what he spent on you - on his bloody sister?!?!?!

Is there some kind of incest/not really his blood sister story going on there? Sorry to jump to conclusions but that is really odd

nickeltownofbethlehem · 25/12/2018 23:36

I made dh buy me a new recorder the other week. "For Christmas".
On top of what he'd already planned.
I Don't feel guilty - it's beautiful.
except I can't tone it in at the moment because I've got a horribly horrible hacking chesty cough thing.

Dowser · 26/12/2018 00:42

No, my dh is rubbish at presents...but he treats me like a queen the rest of the time so he’s excused
For eg, I love Vera Bradley bags so I chose the one I wanted. It had to come from America. When it arrived I checked it was fine. He wrapped it up and gave me it this morning...with no little surprises with it.

Hasn’t a clue! Lol

Somersetlady · 28/12/2018 08:33

@mummylife2018 that is one of the oddest assumptions I have ever read on mumsnet!

He has known his sister since birth obviously knew what he wanted to get her and spoil her. I spoil my sister she works hard and has considerable less disposable income than I do. My husband has plenty of money to buy whatever he chooses. In what sick mind would anyone make the jump to incest ?????
