Anyone else buy a turkey from Aldi?

Ours had gone off. Horrific smell. We did try and cook it but realised it was definitely no good as smell wouldn't go. Customers going mad on Twitter about the Aldi turkeys so we aren't the only ones!

Oh no. Mine was from Sainsbury and by all accounts yum.

LoveManyTrustfew · 25/12/2018 15:15

A long time ago a family friend put the turkey on and went to Mass, came home to a house stinking of fish.

He was first in the queue the day the supermarket reopened, he was the first of many.

Turned out the turkey had been fed on meal that included recycled fish waste. Shock

I had some beef from there a couple of weeks ago and it wasn't good at all. I hesitated feeding it to the dogs.

Same thing happened to me 2 years ago, on a nearly £50 bird from Aldi. When I wanted my money back they demanded to know why I hadn't brought the bird in. It was rank. I recall Iceland being fined for rotating frozen stock in and out of freezers in an attempt to keep it cold because their stockrooms were too small, I have wondered if that happens at some Aldi stores at this time of year. :(

Tw1nsetAndPearls · 25/12/2018 15:24

Yes , it was one of the best turkeys that we have bought. In the past we have bought turkeys from Tesco, Sainsbury's Morrisons. M&S and Waitrose.

Darkbaptism · 25/12/2018 15:24

Lots of complaints on FB about Aldi turkeys too. Hope people don’t eat them and get sick.

Thisisit777 · 25/12/2018 15:26

Oh no

Thisisit777 · 25/12/2018 15:27

Yuk! Hope you had something to replace it with x

Calzone · 25/12/2018 15:28

Seen this a few times today 😭😭😭

DonaldDucksTowel · 25/12/2018 15:28

Oh no we haven’t had ours yet - I hope it’s ok or it’s fishfingers for dinner 😟

drinkswineoutofamug · 25/12/2018 15:29

Just eaten ours. Tasted ok

abbsisspartacus · 25/12/2018 15:32

Fresh or frozen ones? Ours was frozen but we have eaten it fine

Doobydoobydooyeh · 25/12/2018 17:06

It went in the bin. Seriously considering turning vegetarian!

Ours was fresh enough but very dry and tough. Disappointing when last year's was so good.

HildaZelda · 25/12/2018 17:20

I had a frozen stuffed turkey breast from Aldi. Apparently could be cooked from frozen, but I thawed it out before cooking. Ate it a couple of hours ago. Smelt and tasted fine and we're all okay so far.
Will let you know if any of us starting a bit off in the next while!

Mummyshark2018 · 25/12/2018 17:31

Turkey crown from Aldi was very nice. Our use by date was 26th dec but we kept it in back of fridge so was grand.

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 25/12/2018 17:39

I also had a frozen stuffed turkey breast, it tasted nice. I read on the news a while ago that chicken from Aldi is the most likely to give you food poisoning out of all the major supermarkets. So I wonder if the turkey's the same. I've opened raw chicken from there before and it's had a foul smell so gone straight in the bin.

SomeOtherDay · 25/12/2018 17:42

Our neighbour had the same problem with their Lidl turkey yesterday

Frouby · 25/12/2018 17:45

Turkey crown here, was lovely. As nice as the twice the price butchers one we usually have.

SearchingforYouth · 25/12/2018 17:45

Oh dear. We had an Aldi turkey crown, the prestige (?) version, and it was perfect 👌

x2boys · 25/12/2018 17:52

I hope you had something to replace itXmas Sad mine was a frozen one from ice land and it was really nice actually i brined it though if that makes a differeance? My mum once had a deformed Turkey from the co-op it had one leg and virtually no breastXmas Confused she only realised on xmas eve when she defrosted it and had ten coming for xmas dinner!

Kezzie200 · 25/12/2018 19:09

Aldi, crown was great.

Did have an issue with a local butcher turkey two years ago. They gave me my money back. I did have a photo as it had gone green!
