Knowledgeable meat people - is this rib of beef ok?

It was shrink wrapped so I expect a smell until it’s been exposed to air for a bit. I didn’t like that it has the brown colour in the centre and the metallic smell didn’t seem to wear off. Burptchers sell by is 27 December. That’s ok, but if you’re selling meat for Xmas period I’d expect sell by would be a few days later.
Do you think it looks ok. It smells fine in the oven.

Yes, it will be lovely.

IHaveBrilloHair · 25/12/2018 13:47

Oh no, it looks awful, send it here and I will dispose if itGrin

DianaPrincessOfThemyscira · 25/12/2018 13:47

Yes it’s fine. Beef takes a lot to go off - most beef is matured for like 21 days isn’t it?

That looks fab. It will not be off by the 27th. Are you just cooking for one?

ChodeofChodeHall · 25/12/2018 14:12

Looks great, Bon appetit

Tony2 · 25/12/2018 14:28

The problem is partly that most packaged meat has carbon monoxide in the packaging which keeps the meat 'artificially' red, whereas it will normally go brownish, as your beef has. As everyone says, it's fine.

In the spirit of Christmas and MN philosophy of women helping women, I'm willing to help Ihavebrillohairin disposing of your problemGrin

Coloursthatweremyjoy · 25/12/2018 14:50

We have rib of beef and it's that colour. Not unusual at all...a good sign in fact that it's a nice cut.

Enjoy!

IHaveBrilloHair · 25/12/2018 14:52

Oh what a kind offer, but really no need, I'll manage the disposing all by my greedy self

Cattus · 25/12/2018 15:06
