Tonsillitis with white spots: antibiotics or not?

Happy Christmas! I've had a bad throat for a few days and a bad head, yesterday the white spots turned up on my tonsils, more today. So far I don't have a temperature. Do I need antibiotics? Should I wait and see if it gets better by itself? I think this is what the nhs website says.should I get a script just in case it worsens? I'm going away in a few days. Just not sure if I need to do anything or wait it out.

You can’t tell by looking if viral or bacterial -but you should see a doctor. You can become very unwell indeed with tonsillitis ( from a GP who thought she was going to die when she had tonsillitis🤒)

I've just had it. Had a fever that wouldn't come down, terrible cough, white spots. I'm pregnant and was prescribed antibiotics - GP told me very sternly to go home and rest. I'm glad you've seen someone now.

Northernlass (love the name by the way!) you can get some pain relief from pharmacy but you need to see a doctor- from another northernlass who now lives many many hours away.
