I can’t breathe

Staying at MIL's for Xmas. FIL chain smokes in the living room.

My eyes sting and I can’t breathe.

But somehow I'm the anti-social one if I go and sit in another room with the window open.

Fuck that for a game of soldiers. Travelodge.

GobblersKnob · 24/12/2018 20:21

Then be as anti social as you like. I couldn't stand that. I'd be opening the windows in the living room and declaring it too smoky for human habitation.

Sparklingbrook · 24/12/2018 20:23

I wouldn't stay in the house full stop. Do you have DC with you?

Why did you agree to staying?
Fake a D and V bug and go home Grin poor you.

knittedmouse · 24/12/2018 20:45

Go home. You don't want to get lung cancer.

Fozzleyplum · 24/12/2018 20:47

I'd go home too. Any excuse I could think of.

MrsJane · 24/12/2018 20:47

I'd hate that! Please tell me that there are no dcs breathing it all in as well??

AGHHHH · 24/12/2018 21:06

My nan's the same. She does not stop. Fag after fag after fag without more than 1 minute in between.

I can't breathe and I have to boil my clothes when I leave because they all smell foul.

If you make a comment she will go ballistic but in the next breath (between using her inhaler) complains that people don't come to see her (they do). Annoyingly she has like a (heated) indoor smoking room a few feet away, built for this, she won't go there.

It was either this or spend another year alone but I'm still regretting it. :(

Bluemascara4 · 24/12/2018 21:23

Another vote for Travelodge.

Both my parents used to smoke ( in the house) and wondered why DS as I didn't want to visit Hmm

It's awful . I feel your pain .

BlackForestCake · 25/12/2018 14:21

No DCs. Hotel nearby too expensive and would cause a bigger fight than asking them not to smoke.

He's on the phone now to his mate, calling me a fresh air freak because I dared open the back door, seemingly unaware I can hear him.

whiteworld · 25/12/2018 14:34

Vile. Say you have asthma and cannot be 8n the same room as him. Ask if he knows why smoking is banned in bars and pubs, etc. Say that you don’t want to smell like an ashtray or get secondary lung cancer from passive smoking. If he wants to, he can fill his boots.

Sounds awful. And he sounds very un-self-aware.

What does your h say??

TheLittlestLightOnTheTree · 25/12/2018 14:36

Just leave. Seriously, why on earth do people it up with this shit, Christmas or not

Just go home

AGHHHH · 25/12/2018 14:52

It's bloody repulsive and suffocating.

My nan caught me holding my nose as I came downstairs earlier (didn't think she was in the room else I'd have just grimaced internally lol) and she screamed at me because I didn't want to breathe in the fumes. If I ever make any sign that indicates it's bothering me she goes mad. Whether it be sitting away from the table on the sofa or asking to open the door.

I told her I can't stand smoking and she shouted at me not to come to her house then, but then moans that people don't. Confused

I won't be putting myself through this again. My cousin said I stink of fags as soon as I walked through the door despite keeping my clean clothes upstairs.

AGHHHH · 25/12/2018 14:53

I want to go home but can't afford a taxi and nobody can give me a lift.

Deathraystare · 25/12/2018 15:33

Remember this for next year!!!

Start saving for a travelodge for next year now!

TheRhythmessCarolMan · 25/12/2018 15:43

Unsocial not anti.

Hope you you get some air

CrispbuttyNo1 · 25/12/2018 16:11

Anti social is perfect fine as a description.
