Queen - Thank God it's Christmas

John Lennon - War is Over

OP posts:

All of them, with the sole exception of Fairytale of New York.

Bah humbug.

ParadiseLaundry · 24/12/2018 19:15

Band Aid. Mainly because it's been covered so many times. If the rich celebrities want us to give our hard earned cash the least they can do is pull their finger out and write a new song.

Makinglists · 24/12/2018 19:23

Slade. Merry xmas everybody I dont want to be stuck in a 1970š timewarp.

goforkyourself · 24/12/2018 19:36

Only one I like is Proper Crimbo Xmas Blush

I did wonder last week why there are never any new Christmas songs 😒

MacarenaFerreiro · 24/12/2018 19:42

All of them. I've been hearing the same things on a loop since 1975.

DrCoconut · 24/12/2018 19:57

No Christmas song gives me the rage like 8 days of Christmas by destiny's child. Promoting crass materialism and so poorly pronounced you can barely tell what they're saying. I will now stop sounding like my late grandmother Grin

SugarmouseHouse · 24/12/2018 19:58

Anything by Michael bloody Buble.

DrCoconut · 24/12/2018 19:58

Go fork. One of my best memories involves proper crimbo. DS2 was 3 at the time and barely potty trained. That song was on tv while we were putting up the Christmas tree and yes, he did! 😂

BillywigSting · 24/12/2018 20:00

Mariah Carey

If I never ever hear that song again it will be too soon.

Fairytale of Newyork and stop the cavalry are both brilliant though.

wanderings · 24/12/2018 20:04

I wish it could be Christmas every day - once a year is more than enough!
Santa Claus is coming to town - creepy.
Santa Baby - ugh.
Anything by Blake Sheldon - sings through his nose.
Aled Jones - the way he keeps popping up like a jack-in-the-box, on TV and on Classic FM, and taking all the credit for Walking in the Air.

cheesenpickles · 24/12/2018 20:04

Not the song itself but the drums at the end of Slade drive me nuts.

CurbsideProphet · 24/12/2018 20:05

Band Aid. "Do they know it's Christmas time" - well the Christians will, but those who aren't Christians won't care and likely have more things to worry about.

IndianaMoleWoman · 24/12/2018 20:06

Do They Know it’s Christmas Time at All. So patronising to the whole of Africa. Yes, they do know it’s Christmas time, because I’m sure someone on the entire continent might have a fucking calendar. They’ll either be celebrating “underneath that burning sun”, like many people around the world, or not celebrating because they aren’t Christians and don’t give a shiny shit. A proportion will be starving/suffering and of course need help, but they need help all year round, not just because it’s Christmas.

whiteroseredrose · 24/12/2018 20:06

Michael Jackson

MiraculousMarinette · 24/12/2018 20:54

Love them all!

There are new christmas songs. Leona Lewis, Matt Terry, Sia, Coldplay etc have all released lovely original festive songs.

BackforGood · 24/12/2018 21:36

None of them - I love the special Christmas stations that spring up in December Grin

However I do get annoyed at the DJs who claim 'FairyTale of New York' is the best Christmas song ever..... that is very much a subjective opinion.

Heatherjayne1972 · 24/12/2018 22:43

I wish it could be Christmas everyday?? No no no. I wish it could be summer every day

And band aid - Hate hate hate that song. Hated it when it was first released and the massive pressure to go out and buy it
Crappy lyrics -
‘There won’t be snow in Africa this Christmas time’- really.??Shocker
‘The greatest gift they’ll get this year is life ‘. - the whole point of the record was because the people were starving!
Bah. Humbug

ParadiseLaundry · 25/12/2018 11:59

My FIL also claimed there were no new Christmas songs. I pointed out to him that he didn't know any modern songs at any time of the year so why would he know the modern Christmas ones! As PP says there are tonnes of new songs, the problem is the old ones keep getting trotted out every year. It looks like Kelly Clarkson and Leona might have broken through a bit more this year as I've heard them in lots of shops/restaurants etc.

Giggorata · 25/12/2018 12:32

Most of them, and I particularly hate Stop the Cavalry -so monotonous- and the dated Band Aid song.

LoniceraJaponica · 25/12/2018 12:49

I'm with Jsmith
At 60 I have heard them all far too many times and am bored of them. Kirsty MacColl went to my school and was friends with my sister so I will always have a soft spot for Fairy Tale of New York, plus it is by far the best song.

I avoid listening to radio 2 in December.

Stephisaur · 25/12/2018 13:02

The pogues. It’s his voice - if I wanted to listen to a drunkard whinge then I’d spend Christmas with my father.

EssentialHummus · 25/12/2018 13:08

The pogues here too. The first time I heard it (I’m foreign) I thought the Heart FM presenter was doing a parody.

MacarenaFerreiro · 25/12/2018 15:18

I remember seeing Midge Ure interviewed about the Band Aid record and he admitted it wasn't his finest work = cobbled together in 10 minutes flat while Bob Geldof was on the phone getting his mates along to the recording studio.
