Me - I was shy at school and rarely talked.

You?

That I wrote storylines for Corrie and Emmerdale.

But left and am now much happier in a 9 to 5 admin office job.

Waddsup12 · 25/12/2018 00:28

My goal in life was to accrue a million pound in debt...

BradleyPooper · 25/12/2018 00:47

I used to teach English to government ministers in an ex Soviet state.

APositiveMind · 25/12/2018 01:07

That my mental health has massively taken a wrong turn.
I finished CBT last year and I was ok for a few months but recently i feel rock bottom.

I tell my OH I'm just tired. I know I should be seeking help and speaking out. But it was so hard the first time I sort of just want to suffer in silence now.

Daisychainsandglitter · 25/12/2018 03:21

That I was homeless for a year and lived in a tent.

OldPodge · 25/12/2018 04:30

I work as a mental health professional and most people I work with don’t know I have had mental health problems myself, and see one of my Psychiatrist colleagues as a patient. Nothing to be ashamed of I know, but I just prefer to keep it separate.

Punto1 · 25/12/2018 04:40

That I used to live on the streets.

Punto1 · 25/12/2018 04:43

And a weird one maybe, but I've had one person exclaim 'You have a child????? you don't look like you have a child' when I mentioned my dd. Hmm I had been working with her for about a month in desks opposite each other! I suppose I kept the talking to work related stuff.
Forgot to wear my Mummy badge that day I guess.

SapphireSeptember · 25/12/2018 04:44

Most people know I like rock and metal, but when I told someone I work with about my tastes in music she seemed really surprised! Ditto when I told another colleague I'm a Goth.

On one hand I sometimes feel desperately lonely, on the other I hate being around people and just want to be alone. People always see me as a happy, smiley, nice person when I'm an introverted misanthrope underneath.

SecondTimeCharm · 25/12/2018 04:45

im in my 30s and secretly a huge kpop fan! no one knows except DH who has to listen to the odd song in the car Grin

Elephantina · 25/12/2018 05:37

That I was a teenage punk with a 7 inch pink mohawk, when I drank heavily and took drugs and terrible risks (I'm teetotal and work in a very professional risk management role).

I am child-free by choice, but I was once pregnant, for about ten weeks. I felt dreadful, don't know how anyone does it for 9 months. Only me and DH know.

I'm quite overweight these days but I was once a size 10 with a six-pack from working in a physical job.

Dontbestupidagain · 25/12/2018 05:41

That I took an overdose as a teen. That I spent 14 years as a bulimic. That I had relationships with men and women before I got married. That I took a lot of drugs when I was younger.
I think it would surprise most people who knew me.

speakout · 25/12/2018 05:56

I am extraterrestrial.

MarkingTimeIm59 · 25/12/2018 06:57

That I’m drinking too much. I’ve made massive changes this year, including leaving my husband shortly before our ruby wedding anniversary. Outwardly I appear to be coping - and I don’t regret my decision one bit. But I’ve started to rely too much on wine at the end of the day.
I can’t wait for 2019.

Joysandsorrows · 25/12/2018 07:14

That I have steel strong self discipline when I want to. It’s been such a long time since I demonstrated it people would be shocked if I decided to use it & improve my life!

Bluesheep8 · 25/12/2018 07:39

glamourousgrandmother which band?!

People would never know I have MS.

pinkmagic1 · 25/12/2018 08:05

That I was a teen bride.

MrsJMartintheFirst · 25/12/2018 08:06

Me too @Bluesheep8 only me, my neurologist and MS nurse know.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 25/12/2018 08:47

That many years ago, I was a 24/7 drinker and kept water bottles full of vodka in my handbag. Obviously people in AA know, but even close friends wouldn't believe me.

spiderplantsalad · 25/12/2018 08:50

That I grew up in a succession of homeless accommodation, we moved several times a week sometimes. I was attending private school at the time.

That I'm autistic.

That I'm a witch.

People don't know me very well...

Thisisit777 · 25/12/2018 08:55

We are a truly interesting bunch Grin

Happy Christmas!

Rockbird · 25/12/2018 09:01

That I have Aspergers and severe anxiety. That every time I step out of my front door it's a huge step and that there are only a handful of people I can talk to and not want to run screaming. My friends would say I'm the life and soul of the party. I'm really not.

XmasHolly · 25/12/2018 09:11

I can't talk to people that I know on the phone. I'm fine with strangers, or making calls to complain about a delivery or to order something but chit chat with friends, phoning up someone that I know in the social club to ask a question has me panicking and pacing the hall to find some reason why I can't make the phone call. I'm fine face to face just that phone call terrifies me. Xmas Confused

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 25/12/2018 09:12

I have a steel pin in my right leg.
I'm much happier now since my darling SIL pointed out my aspie traits and how to manage them. For forty years I'd simply assumed I was broken.
I have two extra rudimentary nipples.

MrsMartinRohde · 25/12/2018 09:18

Me too Lobsterquadrille

15 years and 9 months without alcohol, my 16th Christmas sober. My AA friends know of course and I have other friends who know but they also have absolutely zero real idea of what life was like at the sharp end of my raving alcoholism.

I love that few people know, that I've built myself and my life back up from rubble, and it's pretty decent.
