Call the midwife....Patsy question.

So, this Christmas seems to have involved a several day long Call the midwife binge. Can anybody answer me this.
Are the nuns/ other midwives supposed to be aware of Patsy and Delia's relationship and sort of help cover it up? Or do they not know? Always puzzled me!!

I believe Phyllis knows but the nuns and other midwives don't know

As above I think.
I miss her character and the actress who played her is/was stunning.
Several new midwives joining in tomorrow's special I believe and I think a new series will kick off in Jan as usual.

Lwmommy · 24/12/2018 18:16

As 50shades says, phylis became aware after seeing patsy leave delias room but no-one else knows.

ChesterGreySideboard · 24/12/2018 18:17

I understood that the midwives knew but turned a blind eye and the nuns just didn’t believe that such things happened.

I will confess that I get pissed off when in historical things the characters are all fine with people being gay / are not racist etc when in reality they probably would be homophobic or racist.

Ah good old Phyllis, not much gets past her. Sadly they've gone now haven't they?

I didn’t know there was a special tomorrow!

Redcrayonisthebest · 24/12/2018 18:21

I also sort of wondered if the head nun's decision to let Delia move in (she shouldn't really have been there) was a sort of tacit acknowledgement of the relationship. As you say though @ChesterGreySideboard probably in reality the nuns would have been quite horrified.

Ah, Phyllis ❤️

She’s my favourite, I bloody love her. I’m almost as excited for the special as I am for my Christmas dinner Xmas Grin

Toddlerteaplease · 26/12/2018 03:25

No way would an order of nuns in the 1960s allow the relationship to happen under their roof if they knew about it. As a pp said I think only Phylis knew.
Quite Enjoyed the Christmas special. Though Shelagh looked so cyanosed at one point that even her teeth were blue!

Redcrayonisthebest · 26/12/2018 19:00

Just got round to watching it and I see what you mean RE the blue. Loathe the doctor couple they are just such goodie goodies!! I think a story line now will involve them not wanting to give Mai up.

Someone on MN once referred to the latest couple of series as Call the Turners, which is exactly what it’s like. I’m bloody sick of the sight of the pair of them, which is a shame because I really liked when they got together.

ChesterGreySideBoard You have said exactly what I was going to say! I love CTMW but must admit that when the storyline about Patsy and Delia was going on,I thought, really? Back then in the early 60s,homophobic attitudes were alive and well. I am practically certain that if the nuns HAD known about it,they would have been scandalised.
