In April we welcomed our first grandchild (she's absolutely scrumptious Grin) and DS2 and DGD are coming for xmas here (DIL is working this week but is coming as soon as she finishes on Thursday) which is very exciting.
DH went to Norway in November for a work trip, and bought a beautiful personalised rocking horse for DGD- very expensive but stunning, and something she'll hopefully be able to use for years and years. It was delivered the other week, and in the chaos, I didn't look properly at the name on the seat, as DD2 had just got in from uni. We are a very horsey family so it's quite meaningful. The DDs were wrapping up presents today when one of them realised that DH has spelt DGD's name wrong- argh! It's quite an unusual name, so I don't want to say what it is, but it ends with "dd" and he's got "dde" on the end. DS2 chose the name which is after his birth mother, and so I'm really upset that this is wrong. DH is devastated, and is going out to Norway again in February- would you try and get another and give it for her first birthday, and just give this one to charity? I know it's wasteful, which is annoying on top of it all.
The problem is that we don't have a lot else for DGD tomorrow- she's in a big family and is the first grandchild for both sides, so has more toys, clothes, etc, than she needs, and so her aunts and uncles (mostly students) have got her small, token gifts, and obviously, DIL won't be there. Does anyone have any ideas? We don't live in a Prime Now area, which was DD2's first suggestion.

Talk about first world problems.

Talk about snarky fuckery. Hmm

This may be v stupid suggestion, but could the wrong spelling be the 'right' name for the horse? So it is a special horse with a similar name to its owner

Leave the spelling mistake. It’s a great bit of history you are making for the future. Life isn’t perfect and if you are horsey you’d know that. Lambeth suggestion is also good.

I get that it's a meaningful first Christmas present i apologise if my post came across badly, just been watching news on the tragedy in Indonesia and it was fresh in my mind.

Tbh the fact that the names spelt differently may end up being part of its charm if you see what i mean? But the little one won't notice tomorrow and I'm sure she'll be thrilled with it, it sounds lovely. You sound like wonderful grandparents and that you've taken this to heart shows how much you care.

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas x

DGD has opened her horse, and loves it- however, I hadn't thought to get any felt stoppers for it, so it's currently driving everyone mad on the stone flag floor in the kitchen!
Our neighbours popped in, and one has very kindly offered to try and carve the extra "e" into a deer, to go with the Christmas theme! Worst case scenario, and we have to get another seat/horse. DH is cooking lunch while I'm getting to cuddle DGD, so everyone's happy! Thanks for your advice, I hope you have a great xmas.

Merry Christmas, Magic.

Honestly op just give it. The spelling mistake is also a good atory when shes older. My original name (not the one i go by) is unusual and especially English people struggle with it. Anything i have wirh my name on is spelled wrong since childhood and honestly i have never minded. :) the gift sounds utterly beautiful.
