So the left aid of my back, roughly behind my lung, is in agony. Pulled muscle I reckon.

Ibuprofen taken, Voltaire on and now in a bath.

Anything else I can do to try to make it better?

Keep moving, go for a walk, do some gentle stretches. Sit with your back supported with a cushion. Try alternating between hold and cold ie: cold peas followed by hot water bottle and keep taking the Ibuprofen OR Voltarol, you shouldn't use both together. Good luck. Go to sleep on a hot water bottle.

You can use something with codeine and paracetamol as well, or ibuprofen with codeine, plus paracetamol. Alternate to get best result. If it's worse when you are active or you are faint or sweaty cal 111

I’m not faint or sweaty, but I yelled and swore all the way home when I changed gear and it made me feel very sick.

Try child’s pose - knees tucked under body, head to floor. Alternate hot and cold compresses. Don’t take to your bed as inactivity can make it worse. If you feel numb anywhere in bum or legs or you struggle weeing go to hospital as your nerves can get compressed with back injuries.

Thanks @ourmaud

Oxen pack helping to numb the area - jeez this is massively inconvenient, tonight if all nights.

Back pain is something I have suffered from for many years and the advice is constantly evolving.

Iirc the current advice is:

Rest initially but not more than a day or so and then gentle regular movement.

Warm - but not hot - patches/hot water bottle/lavendar bags etc I think the 'hot & cold alternated' advice is outdated? The heat patches you can buy that stick on are great!

If you can take both kinds of pain meds (I can't allergic) then alternate so nurofen then 2 hours later paracetamol then 2 hours later nurofen.

Although I'm allergic to nurofen administered orally I'm ok with the gel somehow and do find that helpful.

See a dr if no improvement as soon as you'd be able to with the Christmas closures.

It is bloody rotten luck on the timing!

Thanks @Graphista
