I'm doing the red cabbage (with apple etc)- but I can't think of anything else to save time!

My mum used to do the veg and leave them in water overnight.

Turkey crown with all the usual stuff.

You?

Ham already done & cooling down.

Ive peeled the spuds, put them into cold water with a splash of milk which will stop them going brown.

The carrots, brussels & parsnips are also peeled & zipped into bags.

trinity0097 · 24/12/2018 11:57

I’ve made the parsnip and celeraic bake. Ready to pop in the Oven tomorrow. I’ve also made the cranberry sauce. I’ve made breadcrumbs for the breadsauce, but will make it tomorrow. Will peel the potatoes and cook the sprouts tomorrow. Will be making the 2nd pudding later, a tiramisu.

bellinisurge · 24/12/2018 11:58

Pigs in blankets- about to wrap those bad boys in bacon just now and cook them. What I haven't snaffled for important testing purposes will be reheated in the oven tomorrow. Some of them may need further testing as dh and I get stuff to the table for Christmas dinner.

nbee84 · 24/12/2018 11:59

Ive got red cabbage cooking. Have made the stuffing. Just made a black forest trifle. Will prep some veg next.

Miljah · 24/12/2018 12:01

Thanks. I will do my root veg- good tip about the spuds (milk). Just a dash?

Turkey (crown) went in brine yesterday.

Yep just a dash of milk & that will keep them fresh & white.
The water may look cloudy but just ignore it, it'll be fine Smile

WipsGlitter · 24/12/2018 12:08

Trifle
Potatoes in cold water
Root veg also prepped and in cold water
Stuffing and prep turkey

I also lay the table and have laid the fire for tomorrow! #organised

Madbengalmum · 24/12/2018 12:08

Made stuffing
Made trifle
Made leeks in cheese sauce
Peeled carrots, prepped broccoli, cabbage
Prepped turkey, onions, put bacon on and pigs in blankets
Defrosting salmon and prawns

To do, make up Christmas table later.

purplepingu · 24/12/2018 12:16

I've done the stuffing and pigs in blankets, they're sat in the fridge waiting to be cooked tomorrow. I've made a white chocolate cheesecake for Boxing Day and officially run out of room in the fridge so I'm holding off on anything else until the morning!

drivemissdaisy · 24/12/2018 12:24

Jamie's get ahead gravy currently in the oven.

Raera · 24/12/2018 12:29

If you need extra space and the fridge is full tonight, put them in the car to keep stuff cool.

Soontobe60 · 24/12/2018 12:40

Mash and roasties cooked ready to reheat
Carrots cooked
Cauliflower cheese cooked
All other veg prepped.
Pigs cooked
Meat prepped ready for the oven first thing.

All done on Saturday!

AnneLovesGilbert · 24/12/2018 12:43

We’re hosting the full works on Boxing Day, out most of tomorrow, what can I do today to save on work tomorrow?

Was thinking of roasting spuds, carrots, parsnips so they have plenty of space in the oven then covering in film and reheating Boxing Day? Am I mad?

Butterflysprinkles · 24/12/2018 12:52

Im part pre cooking the brussel sprouts today then in a container in the fridge.

Stupid question alert but what is the Bread Sauce for? Do I need it..

ChoudeBruxelles · 24/12/2018 12:52

I’ll get all veg prepped this afternoon so that it just needs cooking tomorrow

HarrySnotter · 24/12/2018 13:03

Ham is cooking just now, made cauliflower cheese (sorry to those who feel this is an abomination for Christmas lunch) and will do the root vegetables. Biggest problem is storing it all as we don't have a garage and the fridge is stuffed already.

TheNativityDonkey · 24/12/2018 13:14

I prepare pretty much everything.
Veggie chopped and innpans of water on stove. I just change water before cooking.
Pigs in blankets wrapped.
Turkey prepped. I do this teatime - put in toasting tin and do whatever you do to tour Turkey- for me butter under the skin, Apple orange and onion inside cavity, wrapped in.a mountain of bacon (latticed). I then seal it all up in the foil so I all I literally do is put it in the oven tomorrow. I don't even look at my bird for the first 2 hoursn9f cooking either.
I make my cranberry sauce and Xmas meatloaf (sausagement/stuffing/bacon/cranberries) which is my version of stuffing.
I'm mak8ng my trifle today. Just waiting on the custard cooling. Made my mi ce pies yesterday.
I prepare NOTHING on Xmas day. I just cook it. It's all in pans and tins etc ready yo go.
We'll have dinner on our laps tonight so I may and dress the table today too with glasses crackers etc.
All my serving dishes, gravy boat etc have just been rinsed out as most included at Christmas. Ive found all my serving spoons etc. It's all on the site ready to use.

Brainwashed · 24/12/2018 13:32

Made a vegan nut roast. Everything else will be done tomorrow with plenty of helpers

Biancadelriosback · 24/12/2018 13:33

Does leaving your veg in pans of water overnight not sap the flavour or turn them to mush? We haven't prepped anything yet except dessert which is chilling in the fridge. Oh and the bucks fizz is in the jug... That's about it!!

VioletCharlotte · 24/12/2018 13:34

I've done red cabbage, stuffing, cranberry sauce and a vegetarian nut loaf for me. We're going to my Mums, she'll prep all the veg today. I know some people who cook their meat the day before and reheat.

Piffpaffpoff · 24/12/2018 13:37

Veg was blanched and frozen last week
Mash done and in a dish in the fridge
Bacon sausages wrapped
Still got to make puddings
Will also set table tonight, plates and cutlery out

My aim for tomorrow is that I am just putting things in the oven. No actual “doing”

TheNativityDonkey · 24/12/2018 13:38

No leaving in water keeps it fresh and does not affect the flavour. I prep my veg like this several nights a week as I'm cleaning up one evening meal innpreperation for the next nights evening meal. Also on a Saturday afternoon ready for Sunday lunch.

doodleygirl · 24/12/2018 13:40

Loads. I’ve riasted carrots and parsnips, they will take about 15 minutes in a hot oven tomorrow, cabbage made, roasties parboiled coated in flour and oil. Brussels and cauli al dente ready to be plunged into boiling water. All set for 14 tomorrow.

Theunreasonableone · 24/12/2018 13:41

Last year I roasted my parsnips on Christmas Eve night (about 7pm). Let them cool and refrigerated. Then just popped them in the oven for 15 mins on Christmas Day. I’m sure I got that tip from Jamie Oliver
