The shops are only shit for one day

If I hear this once more Angry

Yes, they are closed for one day. It's Tuesday. Tuesday the shops are closed. I shop on a Sunday night, for the week. Every week. Why are friends and family, who seem to be overly invested in each other's shooing this week, insisting I do not need to buy a trolley load because the shops are shut for one day?

I'm not going shopping on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday or Saturday either. I don't care the shops are only closed for one day, it's Tuesday, I don't shop on a Tuesday anyway.

People are nuts. Don't buy your weeks shopping because the shops are only shut for one day. WTF. I do a weeks shopping on a Sunday night every single week.

Try living in Germany where the shops are shut for a whole day every week and no one seems to care.

It's the stress that I think they're trying to counteract when they say this. I know thats what I'm doing when I say it to myself.

I wonder why it doesn’t balance itself out more? Presumably for everyone hosting 20 extended family members for a few days there’s 19 people who are going away and don’t need to shop as much. But they all seem to be in the supermarket regardless.

Onehellofaride · 24/12/2018 23:32

I agree although we have plenty food but I’ve just realised we have hardly any milk!! Blush

Bogiesaremyonlyfriend · 24/12/2018 23:38

This has been driving me mad too. They may only be shit for one day but I'm fucked if I'm leaving the house for a week now!!

AornisHades · 24/12/2018 23:43

We have house guests until Friday. My online shop was a masterpiece of planning on Saturday night. Except for lemons.

Happierwithouthim · 25/12/2018 00:16

I'm the complete opposite, shopped last thurs, was away from fri eve until this lunchtime, picked up trifle, pizza & milk and we've got plenty, bought no sweets, but got loads as presents so we're well stocked up. Going to live off freezer & leftovers until I absolutely have to shop again

NameChanger22 · 25/12/2018 00:20

They are only shut for 1 day but I bought a month's worth of food, just in case we get snowed in until February.

My online Sainsburys shop was delivered by a grumpy man who said "shops are only shut for two days you know". It was my usual weekly shop, plus a few other bits and pieces but by no means a massive shop. We aren't hosting and I'm back at work on Thursday. Miserable grump!

It's true.

You do have to feed your children/guests/whatever waifs and strays turn up etc three times a day. Every day even though it's Christmas!

The why are people who are going elsewhere still shopping is easy.

Because they also have to eat their other regular meals the rest of the week. They'll probably pick up a host gift or two as well if they're sensible.

Plus it's quite likely the hosting rotates. They might not be doing Christmas day in Auntie Joe is, but if they're hosting boxing day sarnies for 15 they're also going to need to be at the shops pre Christmas...
