Just watching his Christmas show on tv. He is like some kind of wizard. All those facial expressions, I'm like what is going on??? The audience are obsessed! What is the deal about him?

I love classical music but not this! Creepy weirdo! I'm sure he is the leader of a cult which attracts pensioners..

RomanyRoots · 23/12/2018 18:32

I've no idea but his string section all play in unison, no harmony at all.
They are chosen for their looks, nothing to do with being a good player.
They are a laughing stock amongst the real orchestral players.

HeronLanyon · 23/12/2018 18:35

Really naf awful awful crap. Saw some of a Christmas special few years ago from square in Maastricht - felt compelled to watch it was so awful. Agree with cult comment above !

He has a lot of groupies that follow him across the world. I don't get it, either.

wizzywig · 23/12/2018 18:38

well thank god for that. i felt like i was watching something really really odd and just not understanding the high levels of emotions.

Most people of that kind love a bit of camp self-regard Grin

I'm more worried about the strong prevalence of female musicians he has in his orchestras.

gendercritter · 23/12/2018 19:03

I find him utterly cultish and strange.

CMOTDibbler · 23/12/2018 19:08

I can't stand his music, but frankly, given the pleasure he gives my very frail 80 year old father (and now my mums dementia means she has gone from hating him to loving it), he can do whatever he likes!

ikltownofboothlehem · 23/12/2018 19:17

He looks like Vigo The Carpathian from Ghostbusters 2

RomanyRoots · 23/12/2018 19:29

It's so sad to see another example of dumbing down, we won't have any real music to hear soon. Sad

RealJudas · 23/12/2018 19:30

What do you mean they play in unison Romany? I mean someone in the second violins of the Berlin Phil can't exact freestyle can they.....

RomanyRoots · 23/12/2018 19:34

I mean they play the same notes there are no first or second parts. I didn't notice a violinist friend pointed it out to me.

rockingthelook · 23/12/2018 20:40

Doesn't really matter if he's a bit cheesy, My Mum, plus friends parents have just paid a shed load to see him again and bloody love him! They come home happy and smiling so I don't give a monkeys if he can't hold a tune in a bucket, the same could be said of Katherine Jenkins, opera buffs detest her, but again she sells loads and has a good fan base. My Mum loves to see the older couples in the audience waltzing in the aisles at his concerts, the glamour of the orchestra etc, if he is the Pied Piper of pensioners, and keeps them happy, fair play to the fella :)

Celebelly · 23/12/2018 20:45

My gran adores him, so I think he definitely has his niche among the over 80s!

deste · 23/12/2018 21:53

My DH used to watch him on TV and loved him, having everything he ever needed I decided to buy tickets for his Christmas one year. It was fantastic and I’m not ashamed or embarrassed to say it. To be honest, the music is secondary, it’s just a real fun show to see and as someone above said, everyone comes out happy and smiling. There was all ages not just over 80’s.

HeronLanyon · 23/12/2018 22:13

My previous comment was very strong and very personal. Agree loads love him and I didn’t mean to be quite so scathing. Sorry if my comment upset any fan of his. God knows not everyone likes stuff I do !

greendale17 · 23/12/2018 22:15

It is all good fun isn’t it? Who care if it is a bit cheesy. Lighten up

Petalflowers · 23/12/2018 22:20

I always find him a little creepy.

inisfree · 23/12/2018 22:31

I've seen him play live and it was one of the best concerts ever (and I'm still in my 40's. He brings joy to thousands and his music is played in some hospitals as it is claimed to promote healing. Each to their own, but if I could afford it I would go and see him every year.

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 23/12/2018 22:42

Oh what channel? Was it Sky? Grin
